Default Klipsch Subs

Right now I have the Klipsch RF 52 towers and the center channel, and I love the way they sound. I'm looking to upgrade the sub I currently own, as the more I listen, the more I notice the boominess of it. I'm sold on the quality of Klipsch, and I love the way look. I'm considering get the RW12 or rw10, probably going with the bigger if I do, but just wanted to know if other owners have either of these subs and how they feel about the sound compared to other subs in the price range, and if you can verify that it does produce a deep bass sound. I'll be heading in to the audio place near me to listen myself, but just curious for other opinions.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, and I don't own a klipsch sub, but I'd recommend you look outside of your comfort zone, and check out various companies' subs......

What price range are you looking in?

Anywhere from the 500-700 price range, I could be willing to wait longer and go up to the 1k range, but to be honest, I don't want a sub that's going to dwarf the rest of my system. And I'd also like to be able to purchase it from my local audio store, so online dealers aren't really an option for me. This place carries the higher end brands as well.

ML Dynamo is nice.... I've never had one, but auditioned it, and the Abyss.... it gets deep, and it's very musical. You can pick one up for $500

I'd audition one side by side with those Klipsch subs you're looking at, and see what one does it for you.....

That's a shame, the MFW-15 ($599) best any of the Klipsch subs and when calibrated properly shouldn't "dwarf" any system, but will have plenty of reserve power should the occasion call for it.

Well, if it's as good as you say, I'm not entirely opposed, it's just I'd prefer to support a local retailer is all. Do you have a link to the MFW-15 so I can check it out?

with the RF-52s you could definately pull off the RW 12D, a very nice sub I'm purchasing myself... we have it at my work so I've used it for music, movies, the surround sound on hockey and football on satellite... and it never dissapoints... and the acoustics of our sound room are worse than any room in your house, guaranteed haha.... but one thing you should consider when auditioning it at a retailer is that they will either not have it tuned, or have it tuned for their setup... and you should play with the settings yourself to see if it does everything you want it to

It's from AV123, one of the more well-known internet dealers along with Hsu, SVS, Axiom Audio and Aperion Audio.

The MFW-15 is here - http://av123.com/index.php?page=shop...mart&Itemid=37

You can see where it ranked on the craigsub lists here - http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...36&postcount=8

It bests the Velodyne DD-18, JL Audio Fathom 112, Hsu VTF-3, SVS PB-12 Ultra and Def Tech Trinity.

In terms of performance/$ value, it's the #1 sub out there right now.

You may have just sold me, that thing is impressive! Now to bookmark it and come back in August when it's expected to be back in stock. Hmm...2 months of waiting, I think I can hold out. Much thanks Doby

I know you said you would like to stay away from online dealers, but at least look into SVS. I had a Klipsch subwoofer before I got my SVS and the two are light years apart, it's not even close. SVS isn't an online dealer either, they are purely an online company, so you are getting it direct. Even if you choose not to go the online route, it would probably be better for you to look at subs from companies other than Klipsch, especially if you have a budget of 500-700. You can get a Martin Logan or a Velodyne for that price.

Seeing how this thread was just brought back up, I decided on the def-tech Supercube I. I enjoyed the performance, styling, and size. It sounds amazing, has plenty of power, is quick and stays tight. I really enjoy it, and best of all was able to find it locally at my specialty av store. If I could have gotten the MFW right away, I think I may have ordered it though based on reviews and would have given it a shot. But I couldn't be happier with my Supercube I

I picked up a Def tech 14" reference series sub..... and it certainly doesn't lack in output, so I don't think you'll have any buyer's remorse....... (although I do just because I think I got "too much" sub! )

The place I bought it from has a 1 year trade in policy for a more expensive item and I had considered going to the reference in a year but I really don't think I need any more sub and feel I'd probably end up like you with buyer's remorse haha

The people telling you to look at other brands don't realize that the Klipsch subs use the same Cerametallic's as the speakers.

To ensure an overall synergy in audio I'd stay with Klipsch.

The people telling him to look at other brands realize that timbre matching is least important in the Sub.... ESPECIALLY for home-theater (for those who actually use a sub for music of course)
