In the earlier BD releases, MPCM was used to deliver lossless audio but at reduced resolution (16-bit 48kHz) but now with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HDMA, master-tape resolution is becoming the norm. Not to say that all of the lossless audio you'll be seeing would be 20/24-bit either since some 80s/90s movies were mixed at CD resolution. Quote:

RAW Digital Bitstream->Decoder-> Digital audio signal->DACs->Analog audio signal->Speaker That is why I said the PS3 has stereo DACs because using the AV Multiout, you only get stereo analog audio. Using optical out, the audio signal stays in digital form (including the DD/DTS bitstream). Using HDMI, the MPCM audio also stays in the digital realm. Quote:
