6. Hallows' Eve -

Bad acting, an awful script, and unoriginal kills. Also I know they are on a limited budget but it is very unrealistic that at all the attractions except for one there is nobody else at them except for the main characters.

[Show spoiler]5. Hereditary -

The first hour was excellent but I hated the direction they went for the rest of the movie.

4. Unsane -

First half of the movie showed a lot of promise but then I felt it started to lose its suspense and my interest as well. It's a shame as well as I was really looking forward to watching this movie after seeing the trailer a few months ago.

3. Cellar Dweller -

Only things going for this movie is the nice monster design and the movie's short runtime.

2. Paranormal Activity -

Found it to be pretty boring at times and not scary at all but I appreciate what they did with the budget that they had.

1. Leatherface -

Not what I was expecting but still enjoyable and serves as a good prequel.

As Above So Below (2014)
I don't know much but I know without having to look that this film has been described as "Da Vinci Code meets Blair Witch" once or twice. It's certainly an apt description. Unexpectedly, I liked the "urban archeology" aspects of the film a lot. Unfortunately, the horror elements are rote. The setting is good and the set-up is really good, but the scares are straight out of a 1st person POV horror game. The worst part, though, are the two lead characters, both of whom are unicorns played by real unicorns. I mean, come on, you're an international multilingual adventurer with 3 advanced degrees and you're, what, 23, with perfect curly red hair? Or you're a "guerilla clocksmith" who looks even prettier and dresses even better than she does? I don't know who that actor is (yes I know he's been in some things) but for God's sake how good looking do you need to be? They also both suffer from I call "Gil Grissom" syndrome. If you remember, Gil Grissom from CSI had essentially no flaws and no vices. His only crime was that he worked too hard and cared too much! Okay, there really ARE people like that... they aren't necessarily unicorns. But I hate them, fictional or not. Get a personality disorder or sex addiction or GAD like the rest of us, then you might be worth paying attention to.

It's fine if your movie has bigger than life characters, I guess, but they need a big scenario to match (well of souls!), and found footage spooky catacombs ain't it. Still, every once in a while the film caught fire, like the excellent prolouge that almost justified the main character's impossible pedigree, or the times when the gang found their way out of a jam using their collective archaic knowledge or otherwise protagonated in interesting ways, or really anything other than looking around and yelling "what's going on?!"

The original Blair Witch was able to get away with putting a bunch of rubes through their paces because we felt like we were watching real kids that we knew. Nobody knows the kids in this movie--and no one would miss them if they disappeared--because they do not exist, above or below.

The Beast Within

Whyyyy didn't I watch this movie sooner? The atmosphere is everything and the beast scene it might’ve taken longer than it should've been but I literally could not look away. No matter how awesome and disgusting it became.

The Dead Zone

I love this film. David Cronenberg's most underrated and strangely forgotten film IMO. Christopher Walken is at the top of his game as usual in a very rich, mesmorizing performance countered by a powerhouse villainous performance my Martin Sheen. Mark Irwin's excellent icy cold cinematography and David Cronenberg's great directing make this one of the top best Stephen King film adaptions. Paramount needs to get on the ball and give this and Stephen King's Silver Bullet proper blu ray transfers.

This wasn't really a scary movie but a very creepy and unnerving movie. The music also added to the creepiness of it. I've seen Free Fire and loved it. This was the second film I've seen of Ben Wheatley. Definitely someone to keep on my radar.

I Know What You Did Last Summer:

A horror movie that I actually grew up on. It isn't quite as entertaining as I remember as a kid, but it still has its moments. I like the set-up and the fact that movie actually has a few intense moments to (particularly the department store chase). The acting is pretty bad most of the time, but I also liked Jennifer Love Hewitt as the final girl in this movie.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer: 1/2

The sequel ramps up the kills and makes them more brutal, but the story gets dumbed down so much from the first (which is a lot to say). I like the tropical island setting, but it just doesn't make much sense story-wise. There's just too many coincidences that had me thinking, "How?"

Oh, the horror so far this year:

I usually save this one for Halloween night, too, but I couldn’t wait a month and had to watch it last week when I got my copy in. I agree that the 4K is a great upgrade. I was noticing things, particularly in the darker scenes, that I hadn’t ever noticed before. I look forward to revisiting it again later this month.

10/03 - Annihilation - - Stunning, mind-blowing sci-fi/horror film. Beautifully and disturbingly shot, with nice visuals and great audio.
The Blair Witch Project - - The greatest found-footage horror film of all time and the one that started it all. If you liked this movie, I would recommend "The Last Broadcast" It's very similar to "Blair Witch" and came out just a year before.
Sorry about the late review, I was a bit busy last night and didn't have time to write out a review.
