I wouldn’t bother, unless you get it for a tenner! Seriously there are better players out there. I think it’s bad that Samsung are doing this but to be honest they’ve caused their own downfall. Which is a shame.

I know, they are $19.99 to $24.99 on average brand new @ Canadian Wall Mart discount chain stores ... family oriented value shopping. ...Almost as good as Costco and about the same as Best Buy. Amazon Canada is in that ball park too, from Jeff Bezos the most greedy guy on the planet.

In the USA, how much is a brand new DVD release title (blockbuster) on average?

Our 4K Blus are $29.99 to $34.99 on average. For lesser 4K titles ... $24.99
Blu-rays in Canada are like our cell phone plans, our TV channel packages, our Internet rates, our car insurances (British Colombia), our legal marijuana stores, our gasoline prices, our credit cards interests, our car repair parts, ...

I can’t believe I’m writing this but I agree with you that the HDR was useless. I returned mine to the store I purchased it from aNd got my money back. I was so disappointed with it and it put me off 4k till I got a Panasonic (can’t remember which). Returned that aswell!

I’ve had two other Samsung tv’s and they were brilliant. My current 4k Samsung is good and I’m happy with it even though the hdmi socket is frigged. The backlight can be a bit iffy sometimes aswell! I’m going for another make next time.

Unfortunately, I just got both a Samsung 4K TV and Samsung 4K Blu-Ray player only a year ago, and I can't afford to get a new one of each from another company, just for the sake of having Dolby Vision.

Yamaha why they don't make 4K players?
...Marantz, Denon, Lexicon, NAD, McIntosh, Ayre, Integra, Harman Kardon, JVC, Esoteric, Luxman?

It is humor. There is no market, no money there to be made.
Today it's Tidal, Qobuz, MQA, Hulu, Vudu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, You Tube Movie Channel, HBO, Cineramax, ...all in 4K Dolby Cinema IMAX, picture and sound streaming and downloading.

Whenever I hear the name Magnavox I can only think of their Odyssey consoles from the 70's.

I have seen no confirmation of this; Samsung still sells blu-ray players on their website. Walmart carries six models and Best Buy carries two.

Their blu-ray players appear to all be junk, anyways, so let them take them all off of the market, too, but I would like to see this speculation confirmed one way or the other.

https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-to...s-report-says/

"Samsung has elaborated on an earlier report that it was no longer making 4K players and has confirmed that it will also halt production on new 1080p models."

"Samsung will no longer introduce new Blu-ray or 4K Blu-ray player models in the US market," a Samsung spokesperson told CNET.

Virtually every report I've seen about this gets debunked if you change the settings between the player and TV.

They are notorious for getting the TV on an auto setting that ruins everything. It is unfortunate, but easily fixed with knowledge and effort.

I did have skip/freeze issues that on the first player they brought to market though. Returned to the store.

this varies weekly depending on what's released in 4k that week. if it's there a big movie, it can be in the lower to mid teens.

Eh, I've owned the K8500, Panny 820, and Oppo 203. The Samsung was trash Imo. the hdr was supposedly way off and the menus were a pain cause a lot of them couldn't be adjusted during playback (like resolution, etc)

Is Samsung BD players lacking DV really the main culprit? im sure it played a role, but think of it like this. Samsung sells the most tv units in the entire world, and probably sells the most 4k tvs worldwide if you include their lower 4k lineups too. So, Samsung 4k tv owners do not require a DV 4k BD player, so they should be buying the Samsung 4k blu ray players (and thus keeping those 4k BD sales afloat), but most of them dont, probably because Samsung BD players are not appealing to them for whatever reason. So the biggest group of 4k tv owners are NOT buying samsung players but instead opt for other brands, whether it be Panasonic, Oppo, LG, Sony.

Samsung has the largest global market share, but that market is a crowded one and they only have 20% of it, which means that 80% belongs to the rest.

As one company chooses to prioritize other things it makes for more opportunity for others. One or two companies bowing out doesn't mean they all will anytime soon. Samsung sell the most TVs but don't sell OLEDs, yet no one says OLEDs are dying.

Good riddance is all the feeling that I can muster for their departure. I won't miss them a bit.
