I remember trying to build up what the film would look like in my head just from that picture. I'm kind of glad it turned out nothing like what I imagined. Phew.
I meant first real glimpse, of something tangible. Not just people more or less standing around on lunch break. I actually expected it to be somewhat similiar to the film we had, but during the time they where establishing a base on whatever planet they where going to be on.

No! I think Salvation was decent. The Arnold cameo helped me enjoy the film for continuity reasons. I think Salvation is a better movie plot wise than Avatar.

Im noticing something about this movie. Every time I turn this on, I turn it off as soon as the dozers come.

Ive seen the first half of this movie 6 or 7 times, Ive seen the end twice, once of which was in the theaters.

Im realizing I just dont care about the 2nd half of this movie at all, when it just turns into a standard issue action movie.

I hope with Avatar 2 they do something a little different with the end.

I am also right there with you on that one.... i really enjoy the introduction of pandora and the avatars etc... but i find myself less inclined to watch the rest. Not that i don't like the end, there is just so many times i can watch a movie of this length to completion in a short time frame. I guess it does say something about how much i liked this sci-fi vision that i keep throwing back in the player regardless of how much free time i got to sit down and watch.

Yep. Its not that I hate the ending, its just that the movie is so long, and its not as good as the first half of the movie, so I lose interest and turn it off.

The beginning feels pretty special to me, and the 2nd half isnt all that different than most other good action movies ive seen.

Exactly!

The rich mythological morality tale is contaminated by action flick superficiality.

I disagree, I also think one of the best scenes is one of the final scenes. I'm also amused that people are complainging about action in an action film.

Avatar Sells 4 Million Blu-ray Discs in 10 Days
Posted May 5, 2010 03:15 PM by Juan Calonge

Avatar isn't done breaking records. During an interview with Fox News' Neil Cavuto, News Corp. Chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch revealed that James Cameron's science-fiction epic has sold "10 million DVDs in 10 days, the highest ever, 40 percent of it in Blu-ray at $24, which is, again, an all-time record."

It was previously reported that Avatar had sold 2.7 million BD units in its first three days on shelves (see blu-ray.com, April 26).

That's off, I read another article and based on my math (which tends to be quite good as I'm an accountant) it was 48%. Ohh well, 40% is still a very good percent all things considered.

I agree. It is slightly amusing that people don't like the action in an action film, but oh well.

That whole big explosive showdown thing has been done too many times, now it just feels like a routine genre convention. How often is it actually the most exciting part of a movie? District 9 was another film where they brought some interesting stuff to the table, but then the final act couldn't be more conventional action movie tripe.

As long as there is a driven force that is natural I don't see the problem. If it's just there to sell the movie, as more action means more $, then it becomes part of the genre convention and less exciting, at least imo.

I'm still trying to figure out whether I should go ahead and get Avatar now, or wait for the release with all the special features in Nov. Any thoughts??

Yes, if you don't know the correct answer for you, then it seems it would be better to wait until you do. Honestly, if you are unsure, is it really wise to spend your money on something someone else tells you to buy? This is a sure fire way to get on the path to financial ruin. It's your money, take ownership of your choices and you will feel better and be less likely to waste money on things you don't really want.
