Default NS-2BRDVD Firmware Update Rules

The threads posted here were all very useful in helping me find the process to getting my firmware updated, h-o-w-e-v-e-r an additional step may be required first before you can do firmware updates at all.

I bought my unit in March 2009 and like others, once Avatar came out, my Blu-Ray playback problems started. I tried to update my unit with both the USB option and burning to a disc. The device NEVER even recognized my USB drive had been inserted....I never saw the "Media Launcher" menu. When I slid in a CD with the upgrade burned on it, it just spit it out like it didn't recognize that disk at all. I finally broke down and called Insignia. There is a known problem with this model. If your firmware is currently at a certain release, it will not accept USB or burned CD updates done by the owner at home. Insignia must first send you a firmware update on Disk in the mail from them. Once you are at this update level, all future updates can be done by you at home and the Media Launcher "should" kick off when you insert your flashdrive yourself. So apparently many of the units left the factory in this mode and require this extra fix before they are "upgradeable", as advertised.
