Just so you know, you can get the Alien Anthology from the UK (it's region free) for $56 shipped to the US. Everything is EXACTLY the same, except it opens up like the Alien Quadrilogy did (folds out) instead of the book/cardboard holding the discs crap.

So it's an Amaray case? Kind of skint at the moment so I will probably snag it next year, doubt it'll hit that price any time soon. I really do love this movie, all the extended scenes only make it even better.

For Avatar, in the UK, there is a slipcase, and inside there's an amaray case with all 3 discs. 1st disc is region free, discs 2 and 3 are region B locked.

For Alien Quadrilogy, it's not an amaray case. It opens up just like the Alien Quadrilogy DVD set did. You unfold it and each disc has it's own section and is held just the same as in an amaray case.

Are you talking about the sticker on the back listing the special features? If so than cool. I was afraid to remove that particular sticker thinking it would just be blank underneath. Sometimes they put those stickers on because they didn't have time to print the special features on the actual slip but if it's just covering the image of the seeds floating, I'm gonna rip that thing off.

I agree that it's gorgeous. I just wasn't sure if I should take the sticker off or if it was covering an empty box where the special features were supposed to be. I only ask because I've taken those stickers off before and been left with a slip with an empty special features box on the back.

I have to say that I received the US edition of the ALIEN set today and it's awful. All the discs, though not scratched per se, are covered in little scuffs and marks, and they're only going to get worse.

I'll be picking up the UK version tomorrow. I'll get the UK Avatar in the Amaray case too.

I live in the UK so no biggie, but I normally like to import because the certificate looks ugly. But I'd rather have an ugly certificate than ugly discs!

That's why I avoided the US release. I honestly don't mind the rating certificates. I feel that the discs are a LOT more secure in the UK packaging. I'll be getting the UK Avatar also. I'll be waiting for that to drop in price a bit though.

UK Edition:

I'm still not a big fan of the movie, but there's no reason why the discs shouldn't be protected properly!

Stupid bloody Fox!

Agreed. I'll definitely be buying this edition. I much prefer the standard case inside the slip....
I'm not a big fan of the movie either, which is why I'll wait for the price to drop before I import it.

Secure from what? Are you going to play Frisbee with the package or something?

I agree. They sit in there just fine. They are easy to take out. If anything is hard to take in and out, it is the book inside of the slipbox, but most things in that kind of packaging (both seasons of True Blood come to mind) are hard to get out the first time and then come out fine afterwards.

Some people seem to be forgetting that this is the only option for people in the US anyways. People are welcome to get the UK set if they want, but they won't be able to watch the second or third discs if they don't live in the UK.

Also, Blu-Ray is SCRATCH RESISTANT. That's been a known fact for years. I've never had a single disk scratch.

Great Post! The discs DO sit in their holders fine & shouldn't get scratched at all from taking them out or returning them to their home(s). Yesterday, the book/holder inside of the slipcase that you take out which houses the discs, Was Very tight. Today though, after taking them out 2-3 times yesterday & once today to watch, it seems a bit more workable, thankfully.

I'd LOVED to have ordered the UK version with the 3-disc Amaray case, but as you noted, all the extras on discs 2 & 3 would be wasted (unless one would want to retrofit their BD player to make it region free; thus voiding most warranties).
