The screen is cracked. I bought the tv off craigslist. Not sure if it is still under warranty.

Sorry, i didn't read your post right. I thought you bought it without knowing it was cracked.

If it's not under warranty your going to have to pay alot to get that fixed.

Call pioneer for repair options.

Dang it. Last question, I promise, Is that something that has to be done by pioneer, or are there other third parties that do the repair for less? I don't have 2200 for a Pioneer repair... :-/

I'm pretty sure the panel has to be replaced if the glass is cracked. Unless you can find another set that has a good panel with something else wrong with it, you're kinda screwed. Sorry.

Best Buy is now completely out of stock on all Pioneer plasma screens as far as I am aware

I think I am done now posting Pioneer plasma screen updates. I stopped into my local Best Buy today. My local Best Buy is completely out of stock on Pioneer plasma screens including all floor models. It was my understanding from the Best Buy sales person that all Best Buy stores nationwide are now out of stock on Pioneer plasma screens.

The PRO-101FD’s are selling for around $3,100-$4,500 on EBAY. A new PRO-141FD that has a list price of $7,000 is selling for $9,999.99 on Amazon for a new unit or $7,999.99 for an open box model.

Pioneer did such a amazing job with their tv's from top to bottom and I hope once the recession is over and the economy becomes strong Pioneer will enter back into the tv market and so will any other companies that have been effected by the economy so there can be competition.

I hope my Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-151FD never has any malfunction! I'm very thankful I along with my family got it as a gift to share. I really am spoiled.

One does see the occasional used 101s & 141s being auctioned/sold off on amazon & ebay but never the 111s. Guess nobody wants to part with their 111s.

Personally, 3D can go jump off a bridge for all I care. I love my Kuro!
Couldn't care any less for the 3D at the moment, there's just so much room for improvement in there..

However there is an issue that sometimes makes me wish I'd bought something else, which is the buzzing. I know there's a ton of writing about this matter but I'd like to hear it from you guys, how loud is it in your opinion or have you ever measured it? Has anyone heard that there might be something wrong with the tv that could make the buzzing louder?

I measured 65dB right next to the tv and yes, I have the power safe mode 2 on. Also the buzzing is not static but rather changes without any logical explanation (for example light/dark screen). Does this sound familiar?

What do you think, am I hypochondriac as the pioneer rep informed me on the phone or could there be something wrong with my kuro?

You are not alone! My Pioneer will do the exact same thing, although I don't have any way to measure how loud the buzzing is. You are correct in that the loudness of the buzzing is based on the light/dark image being displayed. It is the only complaint I have with my set, however either I don't notice the buzzing quite as much or the material that I watch doesn't make my set buzz very often. Even with this flaw, I wouldn't have switched my set with any other model at the time, or even now.

A good surge eliminator/power conditioner might help with the buzz and lower the sound floor. It also depends on how much power you're running on that circuit, if you're overloading that circuit or nearing it's stress limit it can effect your HT...

A knowledgeable person on another forum/website posted this to me...

Quote:
"I personally would not put all your equipment on a 15 amp or 20 amp nondedicated line. Your breaker tripping would be enough for me to install another dedicated 20 amp line and run the amp and sub on a second 20 amp dedicated line connected to a SurgeX (SX-1120-RT).

Your lights (especially if on a dimmer) should really not be on the same circuit as your components. If on, they are likely introducing large amounts of noise into the circuit which can drastically effect video and audio. The good news is the SurgeX units are very good at removing both modes of noise. However note that if your noise floor is very high the SurgeX will only remove a certain db of noise. So if you have less noise to begin with, your SurgeX will create an even lower noise floor, than if it's a very noisy circuit to begin with.

Another issue: when too much equipment plasma, Pre, (and especially the amp and sub) are put on one nondedicated 15 amp or 20 amp circuit, the result can be a drastic reduction in the dynamics of your amp and sub. I have done some testing with dynamics with SurgeX, BrickWall, and Furman units and the restriction of dynamics is very audible if too much high current equipment is on one unit.

***I like to be safe and not get anywhere near max amperage for a given single circuit.***

In my theater I have 5 dedicated 20 amp circuits.

As far as what units are better? Well if $ is not a concern, go for the SurgeX units for reasons I recently posted. Brickwalls are pretty good if you want to save some $. If you can't install new dedicated lines another option (other than moving some equipment to another preexisting circuit, which is a good idea) would be to look into the Furman units that have Power factor correction which offer current headroom above that in your line. Ie. Furman Elite 15 PFI, which is a series mode unit, with a safety but very robust downstream MOV. Another good unit. Feel free to call Robert (engineer) at SurgeX or one of the engineers at Furman for more detail. Hope this helps!"

65db? Thats sounds pretty loud.

I have a real low buzz. I can only hear it if im real close to the TV. I can't hear anything from 8 feet away at my LP so i think it's a normal plasma buzz. With PS mode 2 it completely goes away.

@oppopioneer- Nice info. Those SurgeX units look pretty nice. I like panamax though. Hmmm.

If im reading this correctly, is he saying using power conditioners are not good for HT gear? Wouldn't make sense since he's recommending the SurgeX.

Panamax use mov's which are sacrificial and will divert energy from the neutral to the ground, leads to harmful ground contamination. They just "suppress" surges, they don't eliminate them.

No, what he meant was high current equipment like amps and recievers are plugged into one circuit and one surge eliminator. A amp should have it's own dedicated circuit and own surge eliminator. If you plug a amp, reciever, flat screen tv, bd player into one surge eliminator it will stress it to the max and overload the circuit in the wall.

Here in Finland we have good electric network and virtually no one uses any kind of power conditioners. You can see from my gallery that I have a small place at the moment and I think that all my outlets are in same circuit, I have to check this. I'm using an APC surge protector although it probably isn't as high quality as those products you referred to. It doesn't seem to affect picture or audio quality in negative or positive way and it has an insurance covering up to 100000€ in case something goes wrong

Anyway, thanks for the info, I definately have to look in to what equipment I have in same circuit.

Loud would definately be a one word for it

It's nice to hear you're not having the same problem

Question about firmware updates for the Pio Kuro's...

Have any of you updated your Kuro with a firmware update from Pioneer through the USB? Pioneer offered it on their website back in April of '09. I bought my Pio Elite Kuro 151FD in January 2010, but was ordered in December '09.
