In a normal movie yes. But by Episode II, Lucas gave Burtt a lot of creative control in the overall sound design of the film. I belong to several film score enthusiast communities and it is widely known through insiders and various statements drawn from commentaries and interviews, that Burtt, whether directly or indirectly, messed with Williams' score in the prequels. His hand can also be seen muddying up the score for Indiana Jones 4 as well. Ultimately, Lucas and the music editor did a lousy job of controlling the sound department from going mad with power. But who needs a John Williams timeless masterpiece when you have timeless sound effects for seismic charges. . I don't mean to disrespect Burtt, cause his work is phenomenal and legendary, but I do wish there had been more of a fair balance between sound effects and music like in the OT.

Ben Burtt in his role as all three would have had significant influence. As film editor his editing choices there would have resulted in a film cut a certain way and then as sound editor he would also have been in control of how music cues were then placed/cut to complement the editing. Other times the music would have influenced the editing of the film. Regardless of what scenes demanded which of those methods, ultimately the person at the computer doing the editing for all of the above was Ben Burtt so under Lucas' supervision he would have control over:

• What appears on screen and when
• What sounds are needed and how they are created/gained for integration in the mix; and
• What level, panning etc dialogue, music and effects are at in the mix at any point in time

I go to the John Williams concert at the Hollywood Bowl every year. I am also going to the special Star Wars in Concert at the Bowl this Friday. I like the musical selection for Star Wars in Concert except for one glaring omission. I would LOVE to hear the Order 66 sequence performed live some day.

just watched Tekzilla, Robert Heron got a trip to Panasonic's HD Lab and one of the things he got to see was the star wars blu-ray he reported it looked real good. perhaps we will got a treat for the eyes come Sept 16th

I pre-ordered mine today. I am actually really excited to pre order the next 3 unaltered movies too. Unfortunately that wont be for a long while.

Yep. And even with the OT, Burtt's overbearing influence has been felt from the Definitive LD mixes onwards.

The release of the Blu-ray will just make traffic in here worst when everyone bring's out their Blu-ray microscope and start analysing the color variation scene by scene and I won't even bring up the sound part of it which will also not be pretty

No, there really isnt much else to talk about release-wise. Thats why the derailment ensues. Besides, its making the thread FUN. We cant talk about bitrates and audio codecs all day freegin long. The pitter-patter is epic. keep it rolling, guys.

I hate bringing the Episodes in order (from favorite to least favorite) since I like them all and they all serve different purposes within the Saga and are therefore different in tone and content. Having said that I would put them this way:

- Revenge of the Sith
- the Phantom Menace
- the Empire strikes back
- Attack of the Clones
- A new Hope
- Return of the Jedi
