I know, right? It looks like a lot of the red was taken out of it, and brightened to boot.

And glad they confirmed in that one image on SW.Com that they fixed Fode & Beed's hand going thru his chest.
See, I never even knew about that, until seeing the screencap earlier today.

To be honest, there are quite a few fixes that they've done that I never even noticed as problems before. Surely if they fixed the less obvious things, then I would hope that they would fix the more obvious ones. The main thing that has always bothered me the most about the 2004 DVDs was the garbage mattes around objects in space. That is my main concern.

The potential complaining of some fans and whatever their ideal dream version is should not be connected to preserving the theatrical trilogy. It's 2 totally separate things no matter how much some want to connect them. Look at Close Encounters, or think of what Criterion would do if they had the license. The gold standard for that stuff is what it is. Random Star Wars fans' wishes do not enter into it.

They mentioned in one of the Summit rundowns or on StarWars.Com that they addressed the garbage mattes in a case by case basis.

I scan CD booklets for use on the web in various places, like Amazon..com and RateYourMusic.com, I can create a near professional result by scanning at 600 dpi which creates an image size of an average CD booklet of 2800x2800 pixels. It's a huge image, but of course at it's full size, is very pixelated. I use the image resize tool to shrink the image down to 750x750, roughly 1/4 of the full image. But this gets rid of most of the pixelation. Oh, I do still get some visible scan lines depending on the image being scanned (that's why I said "near professional" above), as fields that contain similar colors tend to to show the scan lines, while busy images come out pretty clean. I lose a little bit of the detail when I shrink the image, but I then hit it with the Auto Sharpen thing and it brings back that detail.

Yeah, I read that earlier today, so I am very excited to see that in action on blu-ray. Spaceships without weird colored boxes around them... Yaaaay!

I just desperately want to see/hear this with my own eyes and ears, and three weeks can't get here soon enough!

I don't want the "unaltered" film in any pedantic, literal sense. I want the original film, the one I never had a problem with before 1997. Recompositing opticals, cleaning up the effects seams, removing the scratches and dirt, all of that is MILES away from inserting new scenes and ruining existing ones.

Folks, this is called filling this thread with off-topic drivel. The mods have already gone through here today and deleted about 20 pages of this type of stuff and you're filling it right back up. If all else, have some respect for the mods who spent many hours cleaning this up.

Now, back on topic:

Even though it hasn't been confirmed that the stills shown in this thread are actual blu-ray screen captures, I'm still excited to hear confirmation that a lot of our concerns are/ have been addressed regarding the flaws of the 2004 DVD release.

A New Hope = $11 million (IMDB says $13 million) $41 or $48.5 million in 2011 dollars.
The Empire Strikes Back = $32 million (IMDB says $18 million) $49 million (if $18m) or $88m (if $32m) in 2011 dollars.
Return Of The Jedi = $32.5 million $74 million in 2011 dollars.
The Phantom Menace = $115 million $156 million in 2011 dollars.
Attack Of The Clones = $120 million (IMDB says $115 million) $144 or $151m in 2011 dollars.
Revenge Of The Sith = $113 million $131 million in 2011 dollars.

No matter what you think about Lucas, every penny of those budgets show up on screen. These were really relatively low-cost pictures, which I guess I never realized before. It's amazing that he spent $20 million less (in equivalent dollars) on Sith as compared with Clones.

I wanna know what happened with the Death Star shuttle hangar scenes in ROTJ. Did they poor sand in the camera gate or something? Vertical scratches all over the place.

The actual budget for Episodes II and III were 100 million each. Confirmed by a poster over at theforce.net which contributed spoilers and had an insider at Lucasfilm (He was legit...trust me.)

The listed official budget for both films were 115 million. But, that was never correct.

I heard from a reliable source that Ray Park was only paid $35K for his role as Darth Maul.

You gotta love the outright lies regarding the 2004 release from the StarWars.com website.

Quote:
http://www.starwars.com/news/saga_bl...ion/index.html

"Some of the issues come from these movies being finished for film and projected for film, and that's how people saw them. A lot of things that look a little different on HD or DVD are really the nature of how video treats color space," explains Huebler. A dramatic example of this came up in the 2004 DVD release, with the dimming of the lightsaber cores throughout the trilogy, even to the point where Luke's lightsaber aboard the Millennium Falcon shifted from blue to green in Episode IV."
Uh, no.... that's because you screwed around with the color timing, crushed the blacks, and turned up the contrast. Even the 1997 Special Edition releases didn't look this way! Film is a far more detailed storage medium than a 1080p Blu-ray, and color space differences have nothing to do with it either. They just won't admit that they screwed up, just like how the reverse rear channels in ANH were somehow intentional.

Even if Lucas wishes to disown the original film, talk about a perfect bonus feature for that unused BD layer: a raw 2k scan of the IB print, with whatever disclaimers he wants to add about how shockingly bad and unrepresentative of his vision it is

Well, just like Neil S. Bulk posted yesterday over on AVS-

"The music in the surround channels was correct, "from a certain point of view."
