I'll admit one thing I enjoyed about the prequel trilogy was the inside look at the intergalatic politics. I thought that was a really cool aspect.

That scene helps make Padme's declaration: "I truly, deeply love you" make a heck of a lot of sense.

Topher Grace's edit sounds excellent.

I like the PT, because it's Star Wars and I love anything Star Wars. But I can't help but feel George Lucas really did a disservice. He had the best story of all time waiting right there in his hands -- the rise of Darth Vader -- the biggest badass villain iever. He could've done anything -- and instead he came up with Gungans, Senate squabbling, Trade Federation blockades, characters that would sell toys, etc.

It's just a movie, and I enjoy it for its entertainment sake, so I don't really give a crap, but it just feels like a squandered opportunity.

Let the bashing begin!!

Agreed. And I do love the Prequels the same way I'd love the puppy from a much-loved dog that had passed away or Wilbur loves Charlotte's daughter. They have some of the features of the originals and remind me why I love the originals, and okay Ep. III, I love pretty unabashedly.

But what does drive me kinda nuts are the people who linger in Star Wars threads to make the same belabored point over and over again that they were disappointed in the Prequels and The Special Editions, but try to dress it up with a different argument about how Lucas is a terrible person or is inept or never ACTUALLY directed or created anything or can't give credit where credit is due... "See, I knew he was a **stard all along!"

It feels like every new comment or bit of publicity Lucas gets is taken as further proof of the above. It has become beyond passe to say how much one hates these movies. As I'm sure it has gone beyond passe to people who hate them for someone else to defend them or Lucas.

Yes, the Prequels could have been 100 times greater than they were. But if growing up with Star Wars has taught me anything, it's to let go of those things that hold you back. Be it painful life experiences or movies that let me down.

Marquand was fired and Lucas replaced him. The DP also quit in solidarity with Marquand.

Nobody really talks about it.

Default Changes Made In Episode II AOTC

I could be full of it but...I just wanted to add in a couple observations. In the blu ray version Episode II. They re-rendered Anakin riding all the "animals" that he rode on. All of those scenes look much better it was always a cringe moment for me cause it looked so jumpy. I would also argue that some Yoda shots were re-made to look "more" like him especially when they save the Jedi. Also I would say they re-rendered all the droids and stormtroopers they all move better. I watched that scene countless times on DVD and it seems different to me. Also I think they added more Jedi I noticed it when they are gathering surrounded by the droids. I think one of them was Anakin's apprentice that they cut in Episode III. Again my eyes could be playing tricks on me. And I know Blu is a much sharper picture. But I believe Lucas was being much more subliminal with this one. It's much closer to Episode III's graphics. My two-cents...

I wonder if you're seeing what was there all along that might have seemed a little less than stellar due to the limitations of dvd- even though that dvd was admittedly pretty good. Given his business model, he seems to only fix egregious errors while ignoring others and adding some things on a whim. I think this medium does a better job with the original digital files.

A good quality blu-ray doesn't add things that aren't there. DVD quality doesn't (normally) equate muddy water.

Has there ever been any proof of that? This is the first I've heard about it.

I was watching "Empire" with the archive commentary not long ago, and some of the actors' comments seemed to be lifted from the interviews done for the "Empire of Dreams" documentary.

I found the original editions (non-special) of the original films on VHS for $1, so I bought it because I haven't seen the movies before. I watched them this past week and liked them very much. Obviously the VHS quality sucks so I am thinking of getting the Blu-Ray version. One thing is holding me back. Will there be a rerelease for this set, maybe a theatrical version one? I saw some of the special editions and it wasn't impressive. I would hate buying the current set and then next year they announce a better one.

Star Wars is one of the most lucrative film franchises in history, so no matter what version you buy, you can bet serious numbers on another set being released within the next two years. Just like buying any sort of tech, as soon as you get it something bigger and better will be released the very next day

Doesn't make up for the loss of Empire of Dreams, though. Lucasfilm royally took the piss with the Blu-ray extras.
