It's a blue streak part of the green laser bolt right before it hits the wall and therefore has been in every release of Episode 1 since it came out in 1999 and not a defect on the Blu-Ray. It's always been their. It's not a huge issue.

There was some kerfuffle a few years ago when it was discovered the National Film Registry copy of the film which was purported to be the 1977 version was actually the Special Edition. Lucas apparently had a line in his contract with Fox that the original prints were to be destroyed if discovered. So basically, the last version of the OT ever likely to be seen by the public in the future is the 2006 DVDs, which were just ports of the 1995 Laserdiscs and non-anamorphic. |

I also don't think Disney will spend any money restoring the OOT. Why would they bother when people eat up the Special Edition versions by the millions? I would love the OOT but at this point it is just wishful thinking and I need to just get over it. I will never own or even watch what is out there now for Star Wars and haven't even bought any Star Wars related merchandise since the first Star Wars DVD release and won't until the OOT is restored and released. Again I need to just get over it...but I can't

I don't know about The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi but a high quality print of the Theatrical Cut Of A New Hope was screened a few years back and it was in really good condition. |

The thing about having the original prints being destroyed sounds like pretty dubious hearsay to me.
Though either way, any regular Eastman prints from 1977 would be faded to a nice shade of pink by now anyway. I don't know how many dye transfer prints were struck by Technicolor UK, but there's still a few in existence. Anyhow, I don't think there's anything to suggest the original film is in any immediate danger except alarmist internet silliness, the camera negatives still exist for everything except the Jabba scene (good riddance), original prints exist, color separations exist, it's just a matter of someone putting the money into cobbling it together. |

I see that the star wars movies are being rereleased to blu ray. So, does this mean we'll get the unaltered versions at last or are these versions without special features?

Well, why else would Fox re-release the movies?

Obvious: to capitalize on the recent resurgence of SW-related news, and change up the artwork (like they always do), meanwhile adding DVDs to make the set more enticing to the average savvy shopper. It has nothing to do with unaltered cuts.

It is called a cash in.
They are riding the hype for Episode VII and beyond, keeping it fresh and also making it more affordable. It is also mainly just to release the trilogies in separate bundles with dvds included. You can rest assured, that if the day comes that they will release the original cuts there will be fanfare from on high and it will be trumpeted at Celebration, ComiCon and D23 Expo. |
