What would you do if Universal Studios remains exclusive to the HD-DVD format?

I never owned a DIVX player, but I bought a few titles, left them sealed. Except The X Files. I opened that up, and tried to play it. Of course, it did not work, but it has some sort of cool message on it...I forget what it says...but it said something about how it won't play...

Back in 1997 when the DVD format launched if the DIVX feature would have been made mandatory then maybe DIVX would have had a niche market. I am glad DIVX failed but it might have coexist if it was a standard feature in all DVD players.

I refuse to buy another high def player when the one I own is the dominant format...

if they won't comply with the market, then it's their loss and I'm fine with the current studio support of BD...

Yup. Screw'em and their high horse they think they're riding in on. If Universal doesn't go blu by the end of the year, they'll go down with their hd-dvd ship.

DIVX was not a feature of DVD, it was a competing format. Circuit City claimed it was a feature, but I think the fact that no founding members of the DVD Forum supported it was proof enough of what it really was. I happily embraced the news of its demise.

I voted that I might buy one - but I can't see that happening any time soon (I'd really have to want a couple of movies to justify it). Plus, my wife might kill me if I add another remote and take up even more shelf space!
