Sounds like you need to start notifying your cable company of small and random problems that your current box is having. The kind of problems that you call to complain about, but aren't happening when the tech guy shows up. Let his happen a couple of times and they're likely to just swap you out with a new HDMI box.

Hook that box up with a HDMI cable.
