I don't have holes on the side 4" from the ends. As you can see, my TV is flat, except in the middle where it boxes out (which is flat). In this box on the middle (where the brackets are placed in the photos) is a butterfly/cross looking area with screw holes. Then just outside the box area in the center is a line of screws going vertical, but these are a good half an inch subset from the back of the unit.
