First off. thanks to everyone who is tryin to help, it is VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED, i cant even sleep thinkin my equipment is messed up! The TV model number is LC-42D62U , it is a 1080P TV with my PS3 updated to version 1.90. Also, I might be wrong , but I cant believe that the director wanted 300 to look like this on my TV, or anyones, its too grainy (i guess), and only some parts look right- also, when u watch 300, it kind of flashes the picture, im sorry my technical jargon is not upto par, but this is eh best way I can explain it, any more thoughts or help ?? |

quick question? in the ps3 settings do you have 1080p/24Hz turned on? (turn it off) Settings - BD/DVD Settings - 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) - OFF ...wonder if this is giving you the "flashes"? |

Hi
I'm all new to this blu-ray and have exactly the same problem. Got a brand new sony bravia telly, fitted the ps3 with an HDMI cable and am getting a standard DVD picture. I've currently got casino royale because i heard that it was one of the best on the market. No grain i mean. Also got spiderman 3 and it's the same problem. any ideas? i'm really desperate now and Sony customer service is diabloical. |

I don't understand why people are upset by the grain in 300.... The director had it stylized this way, purposely using 35mm and adding grain to the CG. Now, we're getting a picture pretty much identical to the master, and people don't want that? They want an altered version just so that one movie looks fake and clear on their TV? I don't get it...

I will buy it now to ck it, and I mean movies with NO GRAIN please, and is Tallladega supposed to be grainy at some parts? Thats wat mad eme see it in 300 in teh first place, and like I said , the gaming is perfect!!
Thanks everyone, and to the people pissed off bout teh 300 grain thing, I apologize, but I spent a decent amount of money and I am rightfully stressd out bout it, but I apologize if it bothers u......... No one close this please, I need the answers. |

Personally, I felt the same way about 300, but then i watched it on a regular dvd and its 10 times worse on regular dvd that I came to appreciate the way it looks on Blu-Ray. I have a 40" Sony 40XBR2. I have the same python HDMI cable and I use my ps3 to play the movies. So far I've only watch Apocolypto, 300, the last samurai, and pirates of the carribean on blu ray, and they all look AWESOME, with 300 being the most grainy. The other titles lived up to my expectations, which were to be honest, VERY HIGH. I'd recommend Apocolypto and The last samurai. |

Casino Royale The Prestige Happy Feet Apocalypto Flags Of Our Fathers Training Day Crank The Departed Ladder 49 Pirates Of The Caribbean (any in the series) Resevoir Dogs Stealth (although it's a horrible film, its PQ and AQ kick @$$) Superman Returns Swordfish (colouring is probably the richest I've seen) |

I got a PS3 last November and plonked in the free Talledaga Nights blu-ray... and it was one of the worst looking transfers EVER. Then I tried out Superman Returns... and I found the transfer very soft, and the colours seemed off. I honestly thought blu-ray was for chumps at that point.
Then I saw Black Hawk Down and Kingdom of Heaven... and I was blown away. And the blu-ray transfers, with Warner being the only real exception, have consistently been more and more impressive. To the OP... this thing about film grain has been discussed often, and I'm sorry but I really don't get it. "Grain" has been part of the filmed artform since the dawn of cinematic history. If you really don't want any grain at all, then simply put, you'll need to watch films that were shot digital and have a direct digital transfer for dvd/blu-ray. You really should give these things a chance though, and perhaps you'll appreciate how grain can enhance the look and feel of a movie. Personally, I love film grain myself. I remember the "French Connection"'s director of photography Owen Roizman being miffed about the most recent DVD transfer... He was not called on to supervise the transfer and most of the grain had been removed. "Do you realize how hard we worked to make it like that?! (originally)". |
