Default Please help me! Grainy movies...

Hello all, I am new to this forum and need help. I just bought a 42 inch Sharp Aquos TV, and have it connected via HDMI cable to my PS3. Talladega Nights had come with my PS3, and when I put it in, it didnt look right. I just bought "300", and its the same thing. I have a Sony TV downstairs that is about 5-6 years old and DVD's on that TV look BETTER than Blu Rays on my Aquos or DVD's on my Aquos . I have a Psyclone HDMI cable for the PS3 (supposed to be great via Best Buy guy).

Can anyone help me and tell me whats wrong? Makes no sense. It is fuzzy in the background, and it looks like the pixels (i think) might be moving on solid surfaces (aka a wall looks like it has bugs on itor in "300" the background just doesnt look right. It is all brand new equipment. And just so u know, games on the PS3 and my Xbox 360 look spectacular (literally perfect), so i dont know if its the TV, Blu Ray, or cables. (Also DVDs on my Xbox 360 look HORRIBLE on my TV, so i dont think it sthe HDMI cables)

If u can help me PLEASE respond. Any input at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks !!

P.S. I dont know if this is the right section for this, but it seemed the most appropriate.

have you gone into the options menu of the PS3 and tried messing with the video quality?

Update your firmware. What I'm guessing is happening is that your Sharp Aquos is 720p resolution, and the PS3 may not be detecting 1080i resolution on the TV. If you don't have firmware 1.80+ installed, it'll output Blu-rays in 480p instead of 720p if your TV doesn't support 1080i, which means it won't look any better than a standard DVD.

If firmware still doesn't fix it, post back a reply with the exact model number of your TV and we can try and take another stab at this.

BTW, this doesn't belong in the Games section.

P.S. Best Buy guys have no idea what they're talking about. Never ever take their advice. If you paid more than $15 for your HDMI cable you were ripped off.

Comeon guys, it's a textbook case of I don't like/understand film grain, surely.

Could be that, too. 300 is one of the grainiest movies out there, while Talladega Nights is one of the most artifact-ridden transfers on Blu-ray.

Since DVDs on the 360 looks bad on the TV as well, I suggest you go back to the store and tell them exactly what you posted here. OR it could just be another troll post

Is your 42" Sharp a 1080p or 720p resolution? Yes and also pick a better movie like Casino Royale, The Prestige, or one of the Pirates films to use.

If both Blu-rays and DVDs in both the PS3 and Xbox 360 look bad, maybe it's your TV. Try you're DVD player on your Aquos, do your DVDs still look bad?

I have to concur 100% on this point! The titles you mentioned as your samplers are both at the very bottom of my 82 Blu-ray collection as, what we like to call, "reference material". I would pick 80 other titles from my shelf before using '300' or 'Talladega Nights' to judge quality. I'm sure that if your games look amazing then it is simply a matter of finding a Blu-ray that is suitable to your needs (A.K.A. "SHOW ME WHAT THIS B!TCH CAN DO"). Definitely go with...

Casino Royale
The Prestige
Happy Feet
Apocalypto
Flags Of Our Fathers
Training Day
Crank
The Departed
Ladder 49
Pirates Of The Caribbean (any in the series)
Resevoir Dogs
Stealth (although it's a horrible film, its PQ and AQ kick @$$)
Superman Returns
Swordfish (colouring is probably the richest I've seen)

Please try a few of these titles before throwing your equipment around in frustration. That tends to lead people towards the other camp... and I'd rather flounder in a sea of Blu than jump into a sinking boat!

Seriously? Are we talking about 300, again? It's the way the director wanted it. Geez.

300 was deliberately made grainy.
I suggest you not to panic and get many other movies on Blu-ray to test drive your TV.

First off. thanks to everyone who is tryin to help, it is VERY GREATLY APPRECIATED, i cant even sleep thinkin my equipment is messed up!

The TV model number is LC-42D62U , it is a 1080P TV with my PS3 updated to version 1.90.

Also, I might be wrong , but I cant believe that the director wanted 300 to look like this on my TV, or anyones, its too grainy (i guess), and only some parts look right- also, when u watch 300, it kind of flashes the picture, im sorry my technical jargon is not upto par, but this is eh best way I can explain it, any more thoughts or help ??

300 was ment to look like that because it was almost entirely CGI. And like other people said get some better movies. I suggest Disturbia, Wild Hogs, Vacancy and TMNT to go along with the already mentioned movies.

quick question?

in the ps3 settings do you have 1080p/24Hz turned on? (turn it off)

Settings - BD/DVD Settings - 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) - OFF

...wonder if this is giving you the "flashes"?

Thats wat mad eme see it in 300 in teh first place, and like I said , the gaming is perfect!!
