Ball of Fire was written by Billy Wilder. Surely that would be a selling point...

That one has definitely moved into my shortlist of most wanted now. A screwball classic with a hot Stanwyck character called Sugarpuss. It’s an essential.

Giant is getting a 4K release in June from Warner Home Video. I wonder why it couldn't be released under the WAC banner just so they could say they went 4K.

I'm hoping that a 4K of DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will be the next big release.

And that would change things how? You think them slapping a WAC banner on it makes it any more likely that their actual releases could get released in 4K too? No, it doesn't, so it's completely pointless.

And they technically "went 4K" already too with such MOD releases as The Outsiders.

Fans and collectors have been requesting that WAC “go” 4K for a while now (I’m not one of them) and Giant is, well, a giant Warner catalog title, so if it acted as their inaugural 4K release I’m sure it’d appease quite a few people for some time. Same could be said for Singin’ In The Rain. Either, or both, could’ve been WAC-branded since WHV is practically dead outside of new titles anyway. I like neither film so I’m not really that invested, but a couple of “deluxe” WAC releases such as these would certainly do much to liven up the barren monthly slates so far this year. It’s just an idea. Harmless and inoffensive etc.

But it literally changes nothing. You are slapping a label on something, and even falsely creating expectations where none should exist. Unless Feltenstein and company actually decide to start releasing titles in 4K, there is little point in just putting WAC's branding on a 4K release.

All the RKO Astaire and Rogers films will be with Warner, unless the elements are below par when they will go to Criterion.

I found Ball of Fire a bit disappointing TBH, but perhaps that's just that I saw the Sugarpuss-meets-all-the-men scene before I went into it, and that scene blows everything else away to such an extent it feels like a letdown.

Maybe paired with a 4k of Ryan's Daughter?

Amazingly, RYAN'S DAUGHTER has never even had a Blu-ray release.

As much as Zhivago would be great, North by Northwest is overdue. Especially with Universal moving forwards with more Hitchcock.

Sorry to be that guy... but is George Feltenstein doing ok? Haven't heard him on any podcasts for a short period of time, unless I missed something. I get nervous in these hard times when I don't see or hear George for a few weeks.

I don't know when it was recorded, but it was less than a month ago that the regular podcast that features George and WAC updates released this one with him.

I'm on board! Now we simply need to convince the Samuel Goldwyn Jr. Family Trust, the Academy Film Archive, and the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation (or someone else to sign the checks).
