Why all the personal attacks? I didn't write the article and why should I be banned as a result? Did I miss the mandatory herd conformity clause in the forum rules? I didn't see anywhere on my Blu Ray warranty card that I was not allowed to post negative Sony news clippings. I own a Blu Ray, I like my Blu Ray. Still this forum is about furthing the perception of Blu Ray as a viable format.

Think about it.

I posted the article to see if like minded Sony lovers had thoughts on wether negative press like this would affect people that have not made a choice yet or movie lovers that don't buy game systems.

The misspelling was intentional. Apparently you've never listened to Anthrax or are familiar with their seminal album Among The Living. The handle was in homage to them and that album specifically. A reference that was lost to you.

Actually Sony the company did have a bad year - especially because of their laptop battery problem.

I just don't pay attention to anything that was written negative about Blu-ray pre-December 2006. The Blu-ray start was not that great with Samsung's flawed first generation product.

But starting in December the Blu-ray scene turned the corner and is now the dominant format. I am still buzzing from all the good news that came out of CES last week. And I am more impressed with each new movie that comes out (Crank PQ and SQ was just awesome!!!). Casino Royal is going to be off the hook!!! And it's only going to get better and better in 07.

To be honest, I am more concerned about the news last week about Sony saying no to the Porn industry than Sony's tech problems last year. Like it or not, this could be a huge problem for Blu-ray especially if the public perceives that Sony is voilating their First Amendment right by their actions. Hopefully this news was a misunderstanding and it will be explained in a positive way soon.

Otherwise it's all good for Blu-ray in '07

Safe Haven from what? From what the tech industry is saying? I'm simply at a loss. How can this article not be relevant. I love my Blu Ray as much as anyone.

Probably fair. It wasn't a good year for Sony.

But, with everything going its way, Toshiba managed to sell 80K HD DVD players and require Microsoft help to put out a loss leader to get the number up to less than a total disaster.

Now, the PS/3 is in full production. They are preparing for a big launch in Europe. The Sony player is selling well as the content starts to flood in. And Samsung sales have spiked since the street prices dropped under $600. And a new and better Sammy is on the way that rivals the XA2.

HD DVD better hope for a repeat year from BD. It isn't look good for them so far.

Has Sony had missteps? Absolutely. At least they have the cojones to create and take a chance on a compelling vision of the future and execute on it. Which is more than one can say for a company like Microsoft, who's entire foundation is a built on facsimile's of other people's innovations...

Zune (iPod)
XBox (PS2)
etc, etc...

So Sony had a less than stellar year...so what? Sony does not equal Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is not a Sony proprietary technology. Yes, they are key players, but people shouldn't equate the success of Sony to Blu-Ray.

BTW, did you honestly expect to solicit objective dialogue about a completely negative news story on Sony, by posting it on a website entitled Blu-Ray.com? That's like telling Steven Spielberg that Iran thinks the Holocaust never happened and then asking for his thoughts on the matter. What did you think people were going to say? "Yeah, they're right...Sony had a bad year, so I really should stop buying Blu-Ray discs and I'm going to throw my $1000 BD Player in the trash can. All hope is lost."

I think this theard has come to an end for it's usefulness. Honestly it is all about the past and bad taste in music. Sorry no nice way to say it Anthrax sucks. The name of the band is correct because the music that they play will kill you or your ears at least. Sony was not rank#1 in disappointments BTW, that would be westinghouse, MS and toshiba being a close second.

Well, first of all, the link that posted Emannikcufesin is not new. Check it out again, is from December 11 2006, and since that date to now, a lot of things happened into the ps3/blu-ray sector, and mostly are good news to my perception. Sales are growing, software (movies & games) are coming on a regular basis. The editor of that article, i think, is very partial or at least anti-sony. For example, he claims that a "disappointment" for the PS3 was that a firmware update was necessary immediately after you open the box...well, i don't see this as a drawback...at contrary, this means sony is fixing the bugs and there's the solution. The same happened to the 1st toshiba HD-DVD player, a firmware update were available weeks after the launch. Maybe was easier to sony close their eyes and roll the machines without make the corrections.

That made me remember the universal's back to the future trilogy packs that had errors on 2 discs some years ago, and they never told anyone & launched the packs, until the case were made public on the digital bits page, and magically appeared a phone to report the faulty discs (of course, of all the people that "discover" the error and read that page) and return the discs for new ones.

Sony had a tough 2006, but they have the enough resources to recover and most important, not matter what happened, i think sony still enjoys, after all, a good reputation between the customers.

Here in Mexico sony is "el rey" (the king).

Yet Sony's stock has been on the slight rise ever since CES...
