Probably fair. It wasn't a good year for Sony.

But, with everything going its way, Toshiba managed to sell 80K HD DVD players and require Microsoft help to put out a loss leader to get the number up to less than a total disaster.

Now, the PS/3 is in full production. They are preparing for a big launch in Europe. The Sony player is selling well as the content starts to flood in. And Samsung sales have spiked since the street prices dropped under $600. And a new and better Sammy is on the way that rivals the XA2.

HD DVD better hope for a repeat year from BD. It isn't look good for them so far.

Actually there is a defence, IGNORE.

Never thought I would have to use it here, AVSF yes, but not here, our safe haven.

Why all the personal attacks? I didn't write the article and why should I be banned as a result? Did I miss the mandatory herd conformity clause in the forum rules? I didn't see anywhere on my Blu Ray warranty card that I was not allowed to post negative Sony news clippings. I own a Blu Ray, I like my Blu Ray. Still this forum is about furthing the perception of Blu Ray as a viable format.

Think about it.

I posted the article to see if like minded Sony lovers had thoughts on wether negative press like this would affect people that have not made a choice yet or movie lovers that don't buy game systems.

If I remember the forum rules, personal attacks were not allowed. Thanks for the insult.

Safe Haven from what? From what the tech industry is saying? I'm simply at a loss. How can this article not be relevant. I love my Blu Ray as much as anyone.

The misspelling was intentional. Apparently you've never listened to Anthrax or are familiar with their seminal album Among The Living. The handle was in homage to them and that album specifically. A reference that was lost to you.

I would have thought you were making a reference to the EP Penikufesin, though that band are somewhat before my time, more into Razorlight, Libertines, Dirty Pretty Things, We are Scientists, The Walkmen, Kings of Leon, Rage Against the Machine and Metallica. Mostly stuff from the London Indie scene, or stuff that tries to emulate the London Indie scene, and a bit of metal/reggae metal (Skindred). So please don't try and educate me on music, the music I listen to is most definitely better, in many, many ways.

Max, you have missed the point of this thread entirely and have taken personal offense to it as evidenced by your snide remarks and arrogant comments. Do you have anything worthwhile to add to what could have been a decent discussion or just more childish remarks?

You know why people call out troll when these threads are posted, we all know and have discussed this many times. The manner in which the thread was posted reeks of troll, there was no qualifying statement in the OP, just a link to an article from a site run by a bunch of MS fanboys, this is the kind of stuff that we see on AVSF and the reason son many of our members have left there to come here, to a safe haven for Blu-ray fans.

So as new member I am supposed to know that I need qualifying statements ahead of time as not to get tagged with a derogatory comment like troll? Of course, this is my second day on here, I should have known that this has been talked about ad nausem well in advance, I must be completely at fault when this is the first I've been informed of any such requirements.

This is pathetic, I have received more personal attacks on these forums than I have any other. Yet, in your blind arrogance you seem to think this place is a safe haven for Blu Ray owners. Well, start acting like it. I might as well just return my Blu Ray player to spite people like you.

Actually Sony the company did have a bad year - especially because of their laptop battery problem.

I just don't pay attention to anything that was written negative about Blu-ray pre-December 2006. The Blu-ray start was not that great with Samsung's flawed first generation product.

But starting in December the Blu-ray scene turned the corner and is now the dominant format. I am still buzzing from all the good news that came out of CES last week. And I am more impressed with each new movie that comes out (Crank PQ and SQ was just awesome!!!). Casino Royal is going to be off the hook!!! And it's only going to get better and better in 07.

To be honest, I am more concerned about the news last week about Sony saying no to the Porn industry than Sony's tech problems last year. Like it or not, this could be a huge problem for Blu-ray especially if the public perceives that Sony is voilating their First Amendment right by their actions. Hopefully this news was a misunderstanding and it will be explained in a positive way soon.

Otherwise it's all good for Blu-ray in '07

I have no issues debating the issue, but I think the issue is getting lost. For certain the battery problem was not good for Sony, however although there were delays with PS3 etc, I think they have more than recovered. I'm suprised at how many of the PC mag's and Web sites have been so anti Blu-ray in general and even more Anti Sony, however some don't see it that way at all. Like many of you I have my own ideas, which shall remain my own as it's only speculation. But I would suggest we all back off a bit before this thread gets OUT of control, it's only one two posts away from being locked, which is the last thing that should happen.

Again, the problem is that I had a massive debate with you yesterday on another thread, and even then, by the tone of your first post you came across as a bit of a troll, but I decided to bite, and fought for BD. I see you doing the same today, what do you expect, it will be the same argument.

You may have only joined yesterday, but you have already ruffled enough feathers to know you should cool it down a bit, if I had started this thread in the same manner I would expect to be called a troll, but that is forum etiquette and I suppose that comes with experience.

FYI if it is news about Sony or one of the other BDA companies, good or bad, expect it to have been discussed, search and post in one of those threads.
