I've seen a couple sites incorrectly list the 2nd disc of the SACD release as being just a CD, when in fact all the extra tracks contained therein are stereo SACD as well. Burn and Dead Souls have never sounded so good.
I don't think it's the exact same tracklisting as Further Down The Spiral though is it? And the DualDisc's DVD-A side contains videos and an interactive discography but none of the extra B-sides that appear on the SACD. I find the SACD to be more sonically pleasing than the 24/48 DVD-A version, but of course own both of them. I had the original CD as well, signed from when I met Trent in 1994, but sold it to a collector on nin.com as I only ever looked at it when I was moving house, so figured it would be better utilized by someone else. Now I regret it, I should have got it framed! Quote:
I do believe that if you extracted the data it would all still be 16-bit/44.1kHz CD-DA, so if the CD can't allow the data to be read, I wonder why it came out in the first place. I do have Dire Straits S/T on SHM-SACD and it's wonderfully revealing, the best I've ever heard this album sound. But it's mastered to DSD from the analog tapes and so I believe the DSD is responsible, not the SHM-material. |
