I mean, I know it's Star Wars, but...come on!
90 minutes devoted to Star Wars parodies, and no room for Empire of Dreams...? I believe there's someone out there named Darth Greedious...

Makes me wonder if they could have made the box set more comprehensive. I now have the sneaking suspicion that Lucas is holding back material for another edition in the not-so-distant future. Another reason why I'm considering getting only the original trilogy set.
Totally sucks that Empire of Dreams is not included... UGH

Let me say this again...for the 100th time.

George. Lucas. Doesn't. Care.

If he did, we'd have gotten the OT.

He hasn't cared for like, a decade. And yet we still got the original trilogy on DVD (albeit in not very good quality.)

However, the difficulty of getting decent BDs of the UOT means that I'm curious as to whether he cares ENOUGH. Maybe if 3D doesn't take off much in the next few years (which I'm expecting and vaguely hoping) then perhaps, as BillieCassin says, it will be the prime opportunity for the UOT to get a release.

That said, I stand with my theory that we WILL see the unaltered films on Blu. It's marketing genius - to attach them as "extras" on the inevitable single releases of each of the 3-D films.

It makes such perfect sense. People like me who don't give one crap about SW in 3D (or 3D at all) would buy them instantly if they included 1080p versions of the OT. It would be a way to force up sales - if they included the corresponding OT to each 3-D release, then just about everyone would double-dip - those who want 3D, and those that want to own the films we grew up with.
Why don't you just clone your original post regarding these thoughts?
It would have saved you writing the exact same thing like 20 times.
Just trying to help.

I don't think many people would buy the UOT editions on BD, and those who would buy them, probably just when on super sale or something.

Let's face it, few people would ever watch these more than once or twice max..
The latest editions are just so much better!
Those are the ones most people want, and those are the ones we are getting!

I agree 100%, however being a collector and a film buff rather I watch them once or a hundred time I would still buy it when it came out

The problem I have with what you are saying here is where is your data to back up your conclusions. How do you know how many they would sell? How do you know they would only buy them in a super sale? I mean really? Really? Not to mention your response is always the same and not any different than the pro UOT supporters. I think there are more UOT supporters than you really realize. The Original Trilogy website has decent traffic and most Sci Fi conventions I go to I always get in discussions with people that only want the UOT and will buy nothing else.

Would the UOT fly off the shelves all by themselves after an initial Blu release? No, and thats really not a fair comparison. When the UOT was released in 2006 in the "second round" of Star Wars DVD sets they didnt fly off the shelves and non UOT supporters were like see I told you so. That's because most people bought the 2004 DVD set and were not going to double dip on the SE's again with the UOT taken right from the LD masters(that were not even anamorphic).

If you want a fair comparison then lets see Lucas release his current versions at the same time he releases the UOT both in full HD glory. I think you would be very suprised by the outcome. Lucas would never want to take the chance on being proven wrong.

So now we can get back to "it's not his vision, he dosent want them released etc.

The year - 2117. Conventional 2D and 3D movies have become more something of a curiosity - something from the previous century. Even state of the art holographic projections have gone the way of the 8-Track as now, for the last fifteen years, the standard is Full Dimensional Reality Entertainment (FDRE). Similar to the "holo-decks" of 20th century science fiction, FDREs offer a true escape from reality.

It was just announced last week by the CEO of Skywalker Corp, Darthaniel G. Lucas, that Star Wars, the 20th century films series, would be released to FDRE on May 4th, 2118. This new "special edition" will incorporate more of the wishes of Darthaniel's ancestor, George Lucas, which was left in a binding will agreement after his death almost 100 years ago. "It is going to be fantastic!" Darthaniel was quoted as saying, "Finally something that my family can be proud of- what George wanted all along".

When asked about releasing the original movies in FDRE, Darthaniel was quoted as saying, "I know there are a subset of fans who would like to see the VERY ORIGINAL movies as they were produced in the 20th century, but we want to stress, these were work prints and that all fans should be happy that these FDRE will be so close to the original story!" Regardless, the purists still complain, ever since 2069 when the last original actor was removed from the films, being replaced with a new and improved digital actor.

Mark Hamil IV, a representative of HAG (Human Actors Guild), was quoted as saying, "Film history is being erased as we speak. Except for the hidden copies on DigitalHyperDef or HoloHD [which were outlawed in 2014 by the DMCA], whatever winds up in FDRE IS the new history - despite what happened before. Do you know that there still people who refuse to believe that Rocky Balboa (Rocky movies I-XLVII) was NOT a robot in the original films? Unbelievable!"

I was able to talk to Mathew Wood about this at a Con last year in Tulsa and he said that if you release 2 versions of the same thing you basically devide your sales but still spend twice to remaster 2 versions of each film and very few would buy both . Love it or Hate it The special edtions are what Lucas wants so it does not matter but he did say alot of money was spent on the audio mixs and it will please even the most hardened audio freaks so it might not be the original versions but it will be well done.

Very good stuff and info from Mathew Wood koreyman. Hopefully the sound mix for episode 4 A New Hope will be corrected this time for the blu-ray release because on the dvd release'ed of ANH in 2004 it was rushed a little bit.

All I have to say is Lucas wouldn't be calling the UOT: "The Classic Versions" if he has not intention of eventually releasing them again. Quite frankly that is a great title for marketing purposes. Makes the UOT sound like a premium affair. "Classic Trilogy" sounds pretty good and will look even better on a box. So, the man already has a title for the eventual release.

Basically what I am saying is Lucas isn't stupid. He knows there is a demand for it and eventaully we will see it. I took the below link from a previous post a few pages back (sorry to the OP, I don't remember who ya are!!! but you rock...lol ). For a guy some people claim has no interest in releasing the 'Classic Trilogy' he certainly seems to know that: a) there is demand and b) how much it will cost to do. He wouldn't mention that if he hasn't thought about releasing them (and he clearly has).

Finally, he refers to a pipeline and says 'unforunately' the current versions have priority over the classic versions. Pipeline is timing/funding, as like any business man he has a budget/plan. Blu Rays now and 3D is next. The Special Editons are already digital so the next step is to work on their post conversion 3D (which will probably be a HUGE pain in the @$$). Then, the 'pipeline' will be open for perhaps a full restoration of the Classic Trilogy. So, like BillieCassin (), I think we will see a release of the Classic Trilogy, its just a bit down the road is all.

Gosh, you also sound like a broken record. How many times have you said that now?

Perhaps, I should just stay away from this thread until Comic Con, and the big preview or announcement that is said to happen...

I am just tired of these endless arguments.

Who f%^ing cares? OK, you guys obviously do, so good luck to you.

Sorry, and out.

I'll probably watch them in chronological order, to see what aspects of the overall story line up the best.

Buried SOMEWHERE in this thread was a similar discussion. What came to light is a DIFFERENT suggestion:

IV, V, I, II, III, VI

This way, for a new person watching, you get the surprise of Vader/Anakin is Luke's daddy and then get to flashback to Anakin's rise and fall, and then, in the end, you get to see VI where Anakin redeems himself.

I may go this route on the first Blu Watch - I've only seen the PT ONCE in the theaters. (I saw the OT in the theaters as well, but subsequently have seen them on TV (anyone remember "ABC Sunday Night at the Movies"), VHS, LD, MPEG4, DVD, and soon BLU). We will see how I feel come September and if I am not dead broke by then...

(I was thinking of watching the Clone Wars between II and III, but per Lucas, he wants to go 5 seasons with the show, and currently the show is in season 3 IIRC. I'm still waiting on a decent price on CW the movie. Already got S1 and S2 but have been advised to watch the movie first.)
