I used the auto setup and it sounds good. As far as you receiver diplaying PCM all the time, if you are watching something that is DTSHDMA(coming4/15) ,DolbyTrueHD or Uncompressed PCM, you receiver is going to say PCM and there is no way around that unless you buy a standalone that will bitstream DTSHD and TrueHD. When watching a movie with a regular DTS or DD soundtrack, set you PS3 to Bitstream by pushing "Triangle" and going to "A/V Settings" then your receiver will decode the soundtrack and the display will match accordingly.
I also recommend bying the DVE(digital video essentials) Blu-ray and doing a manual setup, very fun and informative. In the end, whatever sounds good to you is what is most important! Enjoy you Elite receiver my friend.
