But even then, if you're trying to store personally ripped copies in the cloud, you still run into significant issues such as the time it takes to upload them and the myriad of online storage space that will be required (especially for HD rips). With cloud based digital copies (UV, iTunes), I have access to them without having to rip, upload, or pay for significant amounts of cloud storage.

While there are certainly a few similarities, when you really get down to it, these are two very different things. There's a place for both, and one certainly doesn't make the other irrelevant across the board.
