Doesn't this make D2D irrelevant?

Irrelevant? Nope. Not even close in my book. There's a big difference between ripping something to keep it on local storage versus having cloud access to it that allows you to stream it or download it. They're two very different things.
I'm usually moving from place to place every few months for work, and in between I'm travelling a lot. It's not feasible to carry around hundreds of Blu-rays nor is is feasible to spend the time to rip every single one of them and carry around multiple hard drives. That's why digital copies, particularly UV, are extremely appealing to me. I can access them pretty much anywhere, on almost every device I own. And if I know I'm going to be without internet access for a bit, I can download a few ahead of time. It's extremely convenient. Is it my preferred method for watching them? Of course not. I'd much rather have the discs and my watch them in my home theater. But when that's not an option, digital copies are a great fallback. And with D2D, I can access a large portion of my physical media collection wherever I am without having to worry about the time to rip or the hard drive space required to store all of it. There are other advantages too, like being able to share my collection with family and friends (and them being able to share theirs with me). It's all about flexibility and options. As far as I'm concerned, the more options there are, the better. |

While there are certainly a few similarities, when you really get down to it, these are two very different things. There's a place for both, and one certainly doesn't make the other irrelevant across the board. |

![]() But that's even more of a different situation than the question you posed in the first post about this making D2D irrelevant. TV shows aren't D2D eligible at this point, and even if they were, the titles you're referring to probably wouldn't be an option for it. Apples and oranges. ![]() |
