Default static? from subwoofer

hi folks,

strange problem with my subwoofer - its a Monitor RSW12. I've recently replaced my receiver and now have a Denon 1910.. but i'm getting some strange static type sound from the receiver at low frequencies - e.g. watching monsters inc blu-ray the sound is like when there's a power overload.. i'm not describing this very well! its a static type sound.. but its not there all the time..

any ideas what it could be? maybe i should run the audesy setup again..

Cheers,
Michael

it's actually a "hum"...a 60hz electrical signal that you can hear through the sub. You might find this useful:

If your subwoofer or receiver are not defective, it is probably ground hum. Check the cables and wires and separate them from each other. Try a different wall outlet and see if that helps. Also, read the Ground Hum and Ground Loop Isolators. Although most of the links in that thread are for products in the U.S., you should be able to find equivalent products in Ireland.

thanks guys - a 'hum' does describe it better! i'll try isolating the power leads a bitt better this evening.. come to think of it - my extention block (monster clean power) is sitting close enough to the sub.. maybe thats causing the problem..

thanks guys, moving one of the extension leads away from the subwoofer seems to have solved the problem - was worried it might have been the start of something more serious

cheers,
mick
