MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH:

MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH! The violent cult-classic gets the HD treatment and, for the first time EVER, gets a truly authorized optical disc format release in conjunction with director Rene Daalder. Coming from Synapse Films on DVD and Blu-ray in 2016!

Synapse Films is proud to announce work has begun on MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH, directed by Rene Daalder. Rene has completed and supervised a beautiful HD transfer for us, and we are in the process of locating the original audio sound elements (stored at Paramount, evidently, so we're working with their legal department as fast as we can to get access) and doing some additional work at Reliance Mediaworks/Prime Focus for picture restoration (the master was created from a negative element, but were making it the best we can make it!). Extras are still to be coordinated, so no further info on additional supplemental material is available at this time (Rene is busy now working on a new film, so we are waiting for him). We'll give more info on the release, as we have it. We may be able to post some sample frames of the new HD master in the near future right here, on the Synapse Films Facebook page.

Whoa, that's unexpected! I have the German DVD, but it's not exactly reference quality. Really curious to see what kind of extras they have planned, if any.

This brings back memories.

When I was younger, a cable station ran a double feature of Heathers (1989) and Massacre At Central High. I thought that this choice of double feature flicks was hilariously demented.

I've never seen a copy of this movie that wasn't terrible quality. Look forward to this one.

I was just wondering about this film the other day. I saw it back in the mid 90's when I was on a big horror movie kick, but I felt let down by it since I expected a slasher. I think Heathers is a good comparison. This is just an odd movie.

This is a really interesting movie, and goes really well with films like Carrie, Prom Night, and Heathers. It's ideas are much stronger than its execution, and it's very, very tame, but its themes are strong enough to make the movie worth watching. I saw it through a really terrible VHS rip on YouTube, and looking forward to seeing it in HD.

I check this thread every few months for news. This and "The Farmer" are the two releases I'm dying for (I saw them both in the theater when I was a teenager). I hope they see the light of day, as I'm not getting any younger.

How dare you bump this thread without any actual update, and getting my hopes up for no reason.

Anyway, it looks like the director of this film is a difficult person to be in touch with, being that he (apparently) stopped responding to Synapse. Hopefully ONE DAY, he’ll get back in touch with them or they’ll just release the film without his involvement if they can.

Either way, it really looks like Synapse announced this way too prematurely if it’s been FIVE YEARS and it’s still not out. They did recently respond on their FB page that it’s “Still in production. No release date.” Those are the exact same words they’ve been saying for years, but at least we know it’s still (supposedly) coming.

Maybe if we keep complaining about it they might do something. So I think this thread should be kept alive.

Complaining about THE ABYSS hasn't exactly lit a fire under James Cameron.

He's too busy working on a dozen Avatar sequels to worry about such things.

I'm afraid that MACH may be lost to the ages.

The same fate I fear for Prophecy '79, Blood Beach '80, April Fool's Day '86 and The Hitcher '86.

I don't disagree.

However, Synapse's reputation and track record may actually be a Hitchcockian McGuffin, in this case.

As I mentioned, Synapse is probably the 4th US label to attempt to release this film, without success. I feel that there is more at play here than just Synapse's spotty release pattern.

I'm only speculating, but four labels failing to release this title over a roughly ten year period may be indicative of bigger issues than Synapse.

I'll believe it... (everybody can finish that sentence for me).

THE ABYSS
MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH
THE FARMER

None of them?
