Criterion lost the rights for Dracula and Frankenstein well over a decade ago. They were even re-released by Image (with better transfers and the Criterion extras) in 2005.
Given what else we have seen released this year and the number of labels doing these kinds of titles, I would wager it is just a question of time. |

Seeing as the two Warhol films seem to be part of the Westchester Films catalogue, it may be that they are with Shout now. That said, the home video rights to many of the Westchester titles are with other companies, so who knows? It could be telling that Image put out the previous Blu-ray of Dreamscape. Perhaps they lost the rights to their Westchester holdings?
I did find a thread on AVManiacs from 2013 where it is mentioned that Cliff wanted these two titles but failed to land them since they were with someone else. It should be noted however that Shout acquired the Westchester catalogue only in late 2014, so something may have changed. Last edited by BarnDoor; 09-09-2016 at 12:16 PM. |

According to this page:
Then, in 2014, Schlossberg sold the Westchester company and its library to Shout! Factory, though he will remain with the new owners as an adviser. An article from the Hollywood Reporter. Last edited by geoff; 09-09-2016 at 12:56 PM. |

Actually, here's the news post about it-
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=15112 In the comments, Nailwraps mentions that the deal is for broadcast & non-physical media rights. There is still hope that we could get a new edition of the Warhol films from Criterion... Also, Criterion has released Foreign Correspondent, Stagecoach, and Breaker Morant on blu-ray, and they are still in print. So, there is almost no reasons why we can't get Warhol back in the collection. |

It was stated for non-physical media rights, but I would think that Shout must have acquired Dreamscape through the Westchester catalogue, so it might be that they are in a position to get physical media rights where available.
But as I said, it is indeed apparent that Criterion (and others) have licenced many films from the catalogue. I suppose the important question is, were these films under licence to Criterion before the deal, and have they made any further deals for Westchester titles since? If what Cliff said is true, it could be that Criterion are the company in possession of the rights to the films and have thus been sitting on them for some time. Do we know how long the Image DVDs have been OOP for? |

Are there any official affiliates of Synapse on this forum? I would really like to know if there is a possibilty of Synapse being the first cultlabel entering the UHD market. I for one would pay a small fortune for an actual 4K Synapse release of Suspiria.

POPCORN should be out by the end of this year. Once PHENOMENA is wrapped up (final disc is being QC'd right now), POPCORN goes into authoring.

I don't think so. If I'm not mistaken, Criterion quickly deleted the tweet about his visit (and a tweet to Joe Dallesandro asking him to come by their office.)

Is this the last Nikkatsu dvd to be released by Synapse ??
Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon DVD (Nikkatsu Erotic Films) (NTSC Region 1) A LIVING HELL DREAMED BY A WOMAN’S WOMB! A doctor develops a new scientific breakthrough in female psychotherapy with the discovery of the “Dream Ring,” a device that is inserted into a woman to record her thoughts and dreams. But, one dark and stormy night, the doctor and his assistant end up dead - hanging by ropes from the rafters of their lab. The lovely Reiko suffers from a condition known as “genophobia” (the fear of sexual intercourse), so she is admitted to the Tachibana Clinic for observation. Another group of doctors have the “Dream Ring” device and use it on Reiko to analyze her wildly erotic, and violent, dreams and nightmares. The clinic doctors have more sinister reasons to test this device on Reiko, however, and secretly put her under hypnosis so that the ring is activated at any time she hears the sound of a bell. Can she escape the evil doctors’ experiment and, even if she does, who is that strange person, dressed all in black, following her around? NURSE DIARY: BEAST AFTERNOON is a wildly sexy and erotic Nikkatsu film, with strange science-fiction and horror overtones. Directed by Naosuke Kurosawa (ZOOM IN: SEX APARTMENTS). |

As far as I know nothing has changed in the last month since I posted this https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1987
Nurse Diary: Beast Afternoon should be from their first deal made back in 2009(?) and there should still be one movie left from that deal. And they made a new deal for 20 films in 2014(?) and none of those have yet come out. |
