Question Is the sound quality worth the money for cables?

Just wondering if the difference in sound quality is worth me going out and buying analouge cables instead of optical out, let me tell you my set up and you tell me. I have this http://www.bose.com/controller?event..._features#tabs but I have another one of the cube speakers as my center channel. I got the system in '04 so I don't know if they updated it or what. I have the Onkyo Tx-SR.702 It is silver. Any more info needed just reply w/the question

Optical and coaxial digital audio tends to carry a better audio signals than analog. The originating source is digital, so there is no need to make any change there.

A significant boost in audio quality can be had if you upgrade those speakers as the Bose cubs are completely incapable of actually reproducing certain mid range and low-end notes at all. So, you truly are missing part of the audio spectrum that is available to you.

Bose is about 99.9% marketing hype - and very, very low on quality. This is especially noticably when people make the upgrade from their speakers to something different.

Cool thanks but I just dropped a grand on a blu-ray player. and I live in a condo so I can't blast it too loud since I am connected on 1 wall. So you don't think the new audio formats are worth changing the cables? My brother has a Harmon Kardon reciever and Infinity floor stand speakers w/ a Velodyne sub and I think my sound system sounds just as good if not better. I ment get the analouge because you can pass the new audio formats over analogue w/ out having to have the reciever decode it the player does it and then passes it over the analogue

I would go with digital coax as you can get a better quality cable for cheaper and in my opinion it sounds better.

I think the question here isn't between optical and digital coax, but rather optical or digital coax vs. 6 channel analog.

The 6 channel analog will allow the output of LPCM 5.1 wich is a lossless track on most bluray titles, you cannot pass this track over digital connections because they do not allow the bandwidth. If you want the Dynamic range of LPCM then invest in 3 sets of RCA's (Analogs) and connect up that way to your receiver your tx-sr702 does have 5.1 analog inputs.

these different connections have less to do with volume output,& more to do with dynamic range.

Yeah if you want the LPCM then i'd go with the Analogs I thought you were asking if you should run stereo RCA's or a digital connection for surround sound.

no I was just wondering if the lpcm was that much better w/the new audio formats that it is worth buying the analog cables or if I should just stick w/ optical out and standard dolby digital and dts audio tracks?

Go to either RAM or Monoprice. I like them better than BlueJeanscables.

Hell, you can buy two pairs of component video cables and it's the same thing. They're all pretty much the same thing.

^^ Pick whatever length you want. Your budget. They're all good quality.

They're carrying all kinds and breeds. Some of that is expensive, but if you scroll down a bit, you'll see some good cables for good prices.

Start looking around a little bit. I KNOW you can do better than spending $100 to get this done well.

I think the monster cables are great, yeah they are overpriced...but so are alot of things in this world (Air Jordans, Dulce, Fendi, Ralph Lauren etc).

I like the fact that the monster cables are color coded and are sturdy as all hell, I do get a discount on them...but knowing it has a lifetime warranty and all...it's the last cable like that i'll ever need, and I'd probably still buy them even if I had to pay full pop. I guess it just makes me feal whole...lol

JTK has some good points, you can find other great cables for less...truth is recoton cables from wall mart would do the job, doesn't mean it's something i'd reccomend.

And hence: People can and should buy something else that offers the same quality, if not better, for far less money.

There's simply no good reason for anyone to ever buy any Monster cables whatsoever, so long as they continue to be so criminally overpriced, as they are indeed are.

Thanks to the Internet especially, superior alternatives are incredibly easy to come by, as I linked to in my last few posts.

Yeah i'm not a fan of monster at all. Too much marketing hype not enough good cable. I'd go with Tributaries, Audio Quest etc.

Unless you are Brian@BBY and get the cables from monster for less than the reccommended alternatives.

One thing I think nobody ever debates is the Quality of the Monster Cables, it's the value that is always at question. Value is something that is perceived.

I disagree - Value is a direct comparison of cost to the overall build of the product. A product that is built well, and costs 'X' dollars is a deal if other comparible cables cost X+Z dollars and is NOT a deal if most comparible other cables cost X-Z dollars.

So, it is all in relation. I like Monster, but they are overpriced compared to competition of similar quality. They also tend to be overkill for most setups which could get by with the blister pack cables that come free with the DVD player.

I have used a good deal of Monster Cable in my system which I got for free from clients who replaced their old systems with new systems and I pulled the old gear (and cables) out of their homes. Lots of free used Monster Cables. Good stuff - and perfectly priced.

But, I have been replacing almost all of it with custom made cables which I make myself. When I need a 6 inch cable and all I have is a 3 foot cable... and I need 12 of them... things get a bit unruly behind the rack!

Yeah long cables behind the rack does make it unruly but for most people they could care less.
