Default Connecting HMDI cable causes DVD player to "hang"

I'm confounded by this situation. I just got all the equipment set-up and working -- Sony KDL-46XBR4 TV, Samsung BD-P1400 DVD player, and Yamaha YSP 4000 sound projector. After about two weeks of bliss, the DVD player started hanging on the initial load for all DVDs (Blu-Ray or non-Blu-Ray). So, for example, I would put in a Blu-Ray DVD and the player would indicate it was loading and never get beyond that. Same thing for standard DVDs.

I tried a bunch of different configurations and found that if I disconnect the HDMI cable (connected directly to the TV) the DVDs loaded normally. I even tested the DVD player on another TV using a different HDMI cable.

I then upgraded the DVD player's firmware and checked the HDMI connection on the back of the TV (it's wall mounted with the cables in the wall so this is no simple matter). The problem still persists.

Anyone experience something like this, or have any recommendations? I don't think it's the cable, instead I think it's the TV. Brand new cables shouldn't go bad for no reason after two weeks. I purchased the cables from Best Buy. Any advice would be appreciated.
