Unhappy A wasteland in the future?

i am getting a little upset. i look at the upcoming releases, with announced dates, and i only see 4 more bds that i want until november or whenever it shows until.

i have ghost rider on pre order. after that i see The untouchables, The warriors, and 300. other than that i see a bd less landscape for me. i sure wish BD+ would get finished soon along with pip and ime. that way the fox and WB floodgates will open. what am i supposed to do with all of this money floating around? save it? pshaw ya right. i'll have to take up drugs or driving my car everywhere ($3.40 at last fill up) to use up this much money.

not sure if this is so much a "general discussion" as it is the same crap people have been saying for a little while now. just more whining.

i want some harry potter and xmen dammit.

I'm wondering the same thing. There's only a few more blu ray titles released or releasing soon that I want to own. I've seen most of the others worth seeing curtousy of Netflix. So, this weekend when the 1080p HD DVD player gets discounted another $100, why shouldn't i get it? If i got it, i could at least see all the amazing Universal movies in High Def.

Fox supports blu ray, right? Don't they know that not releasing movies is helping the other side? Blu ray has more studio support, why then don't they have 5 times the number of titles as HD DVD?

I expect BD studios have been somewhat conservative in their release slate for the first half of the year. The summer also isn't a big buying time for home video - vacationing, spending more time outdoors and what not. Oct-Feb I believe is the busiest time of year for HT online. That's when forum participation is at the highest anyway. We should start seeing some of the big fall titles announced over the coming months. And I would expect studios are already gearing up for a big fall. A lot of people are expecting this holiday buying season to decide a winner. Fox should be back in the hunt by then too.

Your not serious are you? That would be helping the opposition! Even if it seems like a great deal, think before you act because your HD DVD player will be as obsolete as my LaserDisc player in 1 year.

I've ordered a new Ipod.

Don't get me wrong. Since i got my PS3 in December for the purpose of watching Blu Ray movies i've thought Blu Ray would win. Now i'm not sure, it seems that the number of Blu Ray's sold is only slightly above the number of PS3's sold. HD DVD on the other hand seems to be selling about 5 discs per player, if not more. With the current sales promotion we may quickly see HD DVD outselling blu ray 5 to 1.

And with studios like Fox not having any new releases, i've got to wonder if they've decided to sit on the side lines because they're waiting to see who wins.

Maybe i'll wait a few more months before getting an HD DVD player, i haven't decided yet. All i know is Universal has alot of good movies that i want.

Yeah, but during that year I will get to see some movies that I can't see with BD, and get that nefty PIP deal...

Yeah and at the same time rewarding Toshiba and universal for creating this format war in the first place. Go ahead and buy those HDDVDs, just know that you are helping ensure the demise of high def optical disc.

Right. How many Blu Ray titles have you bought? I've got 23 titles and based upon the sales numbers vs. Blu ray players (ie. PS3s) that seems to put me in the 95% percentile of Blu ray supporters.

They have 50 more titles. In 85% of the time. I remember when HD DVD for months had only 10 more titles than BD (the times before this year) and HD DVDers kept shouting how many more titles they had than BD and that they had 300 titles and stuff like that. And to this day they're about 70 titles short on that figure. We're about a month away from it.

If you want the numbers from exclusive studios, there's 150 BD studio exclusive movies. Universal has only 78 "amazing" exclusive movies.

just give it time, they say BD+ should be almost done, and once that happens which i think will be this month or next, its over for HD DVD IMO. Bring it on FOX!

I have nothing to lose by waiting and i probably will. I'm concerned, however, because shortly after FOX postponed it's blu ray releases, Sony forced the father of the playstation, Ken Kutaragi, into retirement - apparently becuase of his decision to bundle blu ray into the PS3. This makes me wonder how strong their support for Blu Ray really is. The R&D to develop blu ray is probably a fraction of the production costs, and so far they seem unwilling to give their players away like Toshibia.

If they were intent on winning i think they'd have a crappy 1080i BD player that they'd give away for $250. Most of the people i know with Hi Def TVs have 720p, and they're likely not going shell out the extra $250 for a 1080p player that they don't need.

As noted, despite blu ray out selling HD DVD for most of this year i'm concerned. I hope we get some good blu ray exclusive titles announced soon.

the games are blu-ray...this decision isn't weighed on one man....

it's not like he tells everyone that he's doing it and they must comply....

they have to actually agree with him...
