Default Pitch Black/Chronicles of Riddick Questions?

Hey,

I've only seen Pitch Black on DVD a few times and I found it quite enjoyable, but I've never seen Chronicles of Riddick. I was wondering if I should blind buy Chronicles or if they are even worth upgrading to Blu. I just have two questions.

1) Is Chronicles a good film at all?
2) I hear there is a problem with the Chronicles Blu disc...is this true? Or is there a problem with the Pitch Black disc? Thank you.

While I personally really like both movies, they are totally different. So yeah, I'd suggest you rent CoR before buying it.

Yes they are both very different but very good. Pitch Black is kind of narrow story for the Riddick character but CoR really expands on the character and his universe. Both are fantastic movies and discs.

I loved Pitch Black when it was simply that, Pitch Black. Then comes another Riddick film and I was so psyched. After seeing it though, I was rather disappointed. My suggestion is to rent it first and decide for yourself.

I happen to love Chronicles of Riddick! The blu-ray video quality of this movie is excellent!

I would suggest you rent COR before buying either of them. I was able to get both Pitch Black and COR from Best Buy for $34.99. I think individually they are being sold for more. (Just checked amazon 19.99 PB, 22.49 for COR, 35.99 for both)

I really enjoy both, but as it has been said, they are two completely different movies. IMO rent it and make the decision.
Again, I think both are good!

I would concur with this assessment. They are so different in nature that it's tough to offer comparisons with each other. While Pitch Black seemed more akin to the 'Alien' franchise, CoR is more of a planet-hopping adventure ride. Other than the charcters themselves, there is really no similarity in the way the two films unfold. I loved both of them.

I had them both on DVD and was happy with the difference that the upgrade to Blu Ray brought. I was fearful about the glitches that were reported with CoR disk, however happily I had no problems with mine (purchased in Canada as the 2 disk bundle, played on a Sony 550).

Pitch black definitely worth the upgrade to Blu. when it finally went black... I almost that my tv broke and I lost the picture. lol CoR is a good movie too, more of your straight forward action movie, without the dark side that the character shows in Pitch Black.

Is the upgrade in sound worth it to upgrade CoR from the HD DVD?

I also thought the upgrade was worth it for PQ. I like Pitch Black, but I like CoR better. But as everyone else said, the 2 movies are completely different, and I would recommend renting CoR first as well.

I dont think this was answered yet..

Yes, there seems to be a prob with the Chronicles disc. But it doesnt seem to be everywhere. I bought it off Amazon and had problems (it freezes up around the 14 min mark). I returned it to Amazon...got a replacement, no problems.

Seems like I'm going against the grain here, but I own both on blu and think Chronicles is a far better movie. Pitch Black is ok, but Chronicles is a far 'bigger' movie and all the better for it imho. Both transfers to blu are excellent.

I bought both disks from Amazon recently and haven't had any problems freezing.

I think Chronicles is better also. Its a good 'popcorn' flick. Fairly mindless, yet entertaining.

I dig both. A lot. PQ and AQ are very good on both IMO.
