Red face Confused

don;t understand the way these work, do they come in both standard and widescreen viewing? I prefer widescreen because of 46 inch screen but some of my movies specifically say widescreen and some say standard, so my question is : Is there an option to pick blu ray wide or standard like there is with the regular movies ? Please forgive my stupidity as I am not a technical person. Can someone explain ? Does blu-ray decide how a movie gets printed or are there options available ?

I am pretty sure most, if not all Blu-Rays are the widescreen version (the version the director intended). Some are in a 1.85:1 ratio, which would fill up your 16:9 screen fully. The other is a wider 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 ratio that Hollywood has started filming more movies in, most likely in response to the 16:9 tv explosion.

I have not seen Blu-Rays in a cropped, pan and scan version, like you can see on DVD's. Some DVD's have the movie offered in several different aspect ratios and you can select the version you want to watch via the menu. I would imagine Blu-Ray would be no different.

I have always thought "standard" as 4:3 pan and scan.
