Wait a minute?? I thought Profile's were only a concern for those who wanted to use "bonus features" but any movies would always play...

I'm glad to hear that, it's definitely reassuring. Perhaps that guy at Sony was mistaken or just didn't know what he was talking about ![]() Thanks for the responses guys! |

I am sure that was the case. You will always be able to play the movies, just not access the bonus view or pip features.

for a second there, I was questioning my knowledge of the BDP-S300 - I'm glad that's been settled - because my player is only 4 months old.

![]() Don't pay attention to this comment. Perhaps we well need a firmware update in order to access the newest menus or something, but the MOVIE will always be playable on any of the Sony BD players regardless which profile they are as you can read in many threads about this subject posted by people who actually knows what they are talking about. Now PiP commentaries and BD-Live features won't work in the BDP-S300 but honestly I couldn't care less about those features. Gimme DTS MA decoding capabilities and I'd be more than happy! ![]() |

I'm not concerned with the profile 2.0 stuff because I want to watch the movie. Playing with PIP and other stuff becomes pointless after you tried it and satisfied your curiosity.
I want tweaked Java and better load times. "Independence Day" now holds the record for longest load time in my BD collection. 2 min 28 seconds to first screen pic. Yes, I have 3.95. Having 3.90 was nice and was looking forward to 4.00 or 4.10. When I saw 3.95 I was like... "Oh, c'mon!" ![]() Last edited by tron3; 07-07-2008 at 07:52 PM. |

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks anyway.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- So I have the BDP-S300. I'm currently attempting to install the latest update of firmware which is version 3.95. The 3.2 version was what was there before. I downloaded the update, burned it, and put the disc in the tray. I followed ALL instructions to the letter. The machine did everything the Sony site said it would do, then it popped out the tray. Now, the Sony site clearly states: A series of different messages will appear on the front panel display. NOTE: After about 20 minutes, the disc tray may open. WARNING!! Do not remove the disc from the player and do not close the tray. The update is still in progress. However, the tray has been sitting open for about 40 minutes now and the machine appears to be powered off. What should a I do? Keep waiting? Turn it on? Take the disc out or leave it in? Hope you can help, thanks. Last edited by squire87; 07-08-2008 at 08:37 PM. Reason: PROBLEM SOLVED |

Take the disc out of the tray and turn the player on. If all goes well, the player should boot up normally. Yeah, Sony needs to update their instructions so that they're clearer. My S300 does the same thing when it gets done updating the firmware.
