M: L324
The Seventh Seal: L323

Yours should be okay. The affected codes are in this post:

Finally received my replacement Paris Texas disc today.
The disc arrived unprotected in a cardboard sleeve.
No Padding. No wrapping. Not even a thin tissue of protection.
A $40 disc- (that rottted out) and they treat the replacement as if it's a cheap promo disc in a cheap mailer. !?!
Must say- I'm somewhat disappointed with Criterion.

Not even a paper sleeve before they put it inside the cardboard mailer?

Eh, not a big deal, and I'm a very picky person. Those cardboard mailers Criterion sends replacement discs in are very stiff. I wouldn't be concerned.

Wow, they have an exchange program for Canadians, unlike Criterion.

Also, they were proactive in identifying additional titles.

I remember back in the old days when I emailed Jon Mulvaney and he responded within 24-48 hours or so. I still have the emails to prove it. Wow, was another time back then. Perhaps it will never come again and soon they will have to make Jon Mulvaney cloned androids to handle all the email in the future. The real Mr. Mulvaney will be relaxing on an island while his clones respond to us in a very robotic sort of way.

I consider myself lucky to have experienced a real Jon Mulvaney email response.

For those who have asked about the IFPI codes on the replacement discs, here are three:

Paris, Texas: L322
Howard's End: L324
Walkabout: L324

For some reason, criterion sent me double replacements for the discs I sent them.

So you can replace your discs even if they haven't bronzed/gone bad yet???

Just as long as they have the matching IFPI's?

Criterion will either get reimbursed through business insurance or write off these replacements as a business loss. You might as well get replacements now while you can.

That's not surprising. If they look at the discs and don't see bronzing, they'd have to try playing them or scanning the disc data. That takes time, and with a small staff, it wouldn't be worth the trouble. They probably figure if the discs you send them are from the Bad List they may go bad eventually, so it's replace them now or replace them later.

You can add LOLA MONTES to the list on the opening post.

I've got at least 10 Criterion titles affected by this, and I'm still checking them all out...

Is it actually bronzing (changing color), or does it simply not play?

Bronzing on my copy of LOLA MONTES is slight, I guess, when compared to some other discs in my Criterion collection (8 1/2 would be the absolute worst, followed closely by PARIS TEXAS), but it's still noticeable, more so on the outer rim.

(edit: scratch that, my copy of WALKABOUT is the ABSOLUTE worst)

And it doesn't play beyond the 50-something min. mark or around.

Oh! And since we are at it, same goes for my copy of REPULSION, although "tanning" is more advanced here.

And my KAGEMUSHA hardly shows any bronzing, but second half doesn't play either.

P.s. Do we have any solid info on the replacement copies for PIERROT LE FOU? Because I was under the impression that it went out of print when Criterion's rights expired. Am I wrong?

Thank you. Please post pictures if you can.

Guys, it's clear that this problem will persist for years. We're still discovering new problematic discs, and I would not be surprised if all of the titles in the suspect date range end up with bronzed discs.
