Talking Marvel Locks In Jon Favreau For 'Iron Man 2'

Source

Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so of course he's on board...) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a "definitely" richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon -- who used the Internet to rile up the movie's many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet with an offer and then lowballing him. Granted Maisel is no day at the beach himself, but, seriously, could Favreau have been more of an *******?

Actually it wasn't. Favreau was saying they weren't going to make a deal. Hence the article.

Did he call Favreau an *******? Because that's complete horseshit.

Marvel has had a history with trying to screw people out of their money, and this wasn't an exception. They lowballed Favreau and definitely dragged their feet when it came to giving him what he wanted.

From what I've read, he wanted 1% of the gross, which is what Marvel wanted when they decided it was time to create their own studio.

I don't know the details of the prior deal (I heard it was only $4 million plus a percentage), but she is referring to him going to the Internet to 'negotiate'.

She's a Hollywood/Entertainment reporter/blogger so she sees things as they are done in Hollywood. She probably has no knowledge of Marvel's treatment of talent in the comic book world.

While I don't think what he did warrants being called an ass, I do think he wasn't right in the way he handled things. I am happy that he will be back.

Thank God, I was getting a little worried since I first heard the rumour a few weeks ago.

From what I gather, the only thing he mentioned was on his blog, that Marvel hadn't contacted him as of yet. I don't really think it went beyond that. So, honestly, I don't see how he handled it in a wrong way.

Glad to see him signed on as a sequel for a film like this is probably best done with the original director IF he did a good job which Favreau did or the one who directed a reboot like Nolan did for Batman Begins

Favreau didn't pull an Ang Lee when he did Hulk but instead created a successful movie so he should be there on the sequel once again

Jim Littler did a decent job of defending him:

Come on now Ms. Finke, Jon never said anything publicly that could have remotely been construed as "riling up the fans." He simply stated the situation when asked about it, and he was a complete gentleman every time--never implying that Marvel's delay was anything more than a busy movie season. He never even mentioned that he was being "low-balled." That rumor came from inside Marvel itself. What riled us fans up was Marvel's sheer rudeness and lack of gratitude for a job well done. It's obvious Maisel was either playing "games," or truly didn't want to give the guy a proper increase in pay.

I read that. Pretty much all the comments on her site call her out on her comments as well.

Some of the comments on the link you gave were pretty vitriolic towards Favreau. Goes to show how varied the human mind can be.

Theroux to write 'Iron Man' sequel

Didn't think this needed a new thread. Marvel has handed the armor over to Justin Theroux. Theroux, a thesp-scribe best known for roles in "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and HBO's "Six Feet Under" and miniseries "John Adams," most recently wrote the DreamWorks comedy "Tropic Thunder," which Paramount will unspool next month.

In addition to writing and appearing in "Tropic Thunder," Theroux also exec produced the laffer, which stars Ben Stiller, Downey and Jack Black. He recently made his directing debut on "Dedication," which the Weinstein Co. distribbed.
