Does anyone else get the feeling that WB might have a side deal with Microsoft and/or Toshiba to undercut Blu-ray and support HD-DVD? I understand that they want the whole PiP thing for on-screen commentary with the movie playing, but as long as I get great PQ and TruHD sound, I don't care about that to tell you the truth. So I guess Batman Begins, Troy and V for Vendetta will be on those HD hybrid discs(the ones with Blu-ray on one side and HD-DVD on the other) right?

Short answer: Yes, I'm becoming increasingly suspicious as time goes by.

I noticed Wally World as well as Target were not carrying Matrix on hd dvd...but had only one copy of both POTC BD's left at each store.
BB and CC had the 99.00 Matrix sets with full bins....looking as if nobody was buying because of price...which is the same reason Target and Wally World did not have the Matrix...too expensive.

Target had rain checks in place of the sold out and on sale Apocolypto...with many missing rain check slips and an empty bin from the quickly sold out title.

I asked the manager at CC what he thought...and he waved his hands over the BD section of movies which is at least 1/3 bigger than the hd dvd section.....and he said as you can see the studio suporrt advantage is now showing up on shelves.

I bought there last two copies of POTC and they were also sold out of Apocolypto already.

At Amazon...The Matrix had some impact...but in local stores it seems not many are willing to part with 100.00 or more for one good movie with two so so movies in a boxed set.

It would be nice if they eventually release the BD version on individual discs at high bit rates to boot.
Wishful thinking I know

Default Matrix on Blu-ray

I hope when the Matrix movies are released on Blu-Ray that they are sold seperate and also they are then sold seperate on HD-DVD. This way the truth will be told and HD-DVD fans can shut up about them being sold in a box set which supposedly hurt their sales.

Warner could still release The Matrix before this Christmas if they can get the IME layer on there.
If they can't, it will likely not come out until they can.
The recent Home Media Magazine article states that "insider sources reveal the Matrix won't be on BLu-ray until 2008" but I can assure you that is not yet finnalized. They know as a company it will be a great benefit to them to have it out on Blu-ray for Q4.

the funny thing is...they are too arrogant to realize that they were screwed over by having to buy all 3 or nothing at all....

but yet, they still bring up how the sales figures are flawed because this is a box set and not a 'single' movie...and my point of view is, if you have to make excuses for your choice....then maybe you made a bad choice

if it comes out on BD with each movie by itself, this will show the HD DVD owners what a bad choice they made...

Cool

I think regardless of mediocre sequels, people will want all three anyway, but I do see your point THE DON. Having the choice to buy one or all three will matter.

I love the first matrix. the animatrix shorts were amazing. the other movies are...eh. I really don't care for them. I heard the animatrix was SD on the hd dvd box set. if its the same on the BD set that will be a deciding factor. the other 2 I would only watch for the special effects in the fight scenes. they got a little to pretentious for me.

hope they get it out before xmas. i've been a good boy.

I have the box set, it is sweeet. I love all 3 movies. I dont know why so many people hated the last 2, the 3rd movie was awesome.

Probably because the their diet doesn't consist of paint chips.

The third movie was terrible. It was on HBOHD the other day, I recorded it and it took me 4 sittings just to get halfway through it before erasing it in disgust.

Matrix, Spiderman, Oceans, Pirates, thank goodness for LOTR and hopefully Bourne Ultimatum, the 21st century is killing trilogies. I'm sure I just jinxed that one. Xmen can escape as a mediocre 3rd.

Back on topic, I really hope we can purchase these individually else I'll probably have to wait and ebay it.

i personally liked all three movies. The first was definitely the best, but I enjoyed them all and didn't look down at all upon the last 2.

I thought the last 2 had some good moments but overall I won't pay retail price for them, even if they are cheaper on Amazon.com.

Yes, I hope they will make each Matrix movie available separately. I will possibly buy the first one. I have seen all of them, and the first movie is the only one that I might purchase. In general I have seen too much of Mr Reeves over the years to get the whole set.

IME is In Movie Experience. Its a running video supplement that plays while the movie is playing. Basically Picture in a picture.

Trouble is the IME isn't worth the trouble on this release. No exclusive material to be had.

They could release the films as a 4 disc set with all the extras on a BD50...the flipside/extra discs of the HD DVD version are 480i anyway.
