Possible dumb question on Calibration

Calibration can makes a noticeable difference. You can purchase a DVE dvd and do it yourself. Most tv 's have settings for standard ,vivid, custom..etc.If you change the setting to custom before you calibrate it you can go back to the original settings if you are not happy. Our company calibrates every tv we install with a basic calibration disc.

can I calibrate it off the menu with this dvd? or is there some internal factory code I need to access a factory menu to do it?

do not go into the "service menu"...leave that for professionals.

but you can go into the display menu and adjust color, brightness, contrast, sharpness...etc. This can be done by disc.

3 years sound just about right, depending on how much you use your tv and the settings its been on. 'sort of' like a projector dlp's need calibration after a couple of years, and it does take getting use to to the new picture.

the settings can be found in the menu options.

Yes I have the manual and I have set it up to my preference and to me it still looks good. My original question was about proper calibration on a DLP TV. Is it required and how do you do it or by the sound of it only pros can do it via factory menu.

Would it help establish accurate colors, contrast, brightness ect? Yes

Can it help lengthen the lifespan of your TV? Yes

is it required? No.

But it would be wise to.

well, thats the thing walmat.

we all have our own preferences, no matter what or who calibrates our system, professionally or not.

but as crackinhedz mentioned, we suggest calibrating.
