The remake is a multi-million-dollar student film.

Why slavishly copy a classic shot for shot to the point of pedantry and then add your own pervy touches like Norman masturbating and cows(!) in the murder scenes? That's betraying your own ill-advised experiment. Epic fail in every regard... though I do like William H. Macy's performance.

Because you're a creeper named Gus Van Sant with a real thing for teenage male skateboarders, presumably.

Man, that looks great!
Have you sent that to Scream?

I'd buy it in a second!

Here's a little mock-up I made a while back (
[Show spoiler]and tweaked a little more now
) of what I wished it looked like:

That is WAY better.

I'm surprised we haven't already. Not that I'd buy it, though. I want Psycho IV: The Beginning (1990) on Blu-ray.

I have no interest in Bates Motel (1987), Psycho (1998), or the new Bates Motel TV series. Without Anthony Perkins, it's just a pale imitation.

Got the Steel at Walmart yesterday.

Not a huge fan of the colors, but it's still the best artwork for this film on Blu so far, IMO.

I just watched Hitchcock last night for the first time and then it of course made me want to dip back in with the all-time classic Psycho, but now I'm actually tempted to watch the remake. I've never seen it since I've heard it's basically terrible all around.

Should I though? Is there any worth to it at all? I have it in my Vudu account since I got it for free a long time ago.

No! The remake is a awful, scene for scene of an Alfred Hitchcock's classic. It's plagiarized! I don't know why the director: Gus Van Sant even attempted to remake Psycho, if he wasn't going to include any new ideas, and creations of his own into the film.

Sure, if your bored, why not. But trust us when we say it's a complete waste of your time. The only changes made to it are the actors and a bit more nasty shots....nudity in the shower scene and Norman bates masterbating while watching her through the peep hole. It's really disgusting.

Your 109 minutes would be better spent doing virtually anything else.

Watching the original again, for example. haha

Well, you guys told me not to watch it because it was a waste of time...but after all these years of putting it off, I finally decided to watch it after I had the original fresh in my mind....

I can't really add much since others have said it already, but it truly is a waste of space! I'm completely blown away by how bad Vince Vaughns performance is as Norman Bates. All those little laughs he added and just his demeanor in general is completely wrong. He's menacing RIGHT off the bat when you see him. It's a very terrible "remake" or whatever you wanna call it.

OMG! I was wondering if they were actually going to reissue it for its 55th anniversary! But it sounded so odd, you don't see many anniversary editions of that age. The movie was also reissued last year, you'd think they would've held off what with the 50th Ann BD going OOP and built up more demand if this is in fact a remaster (really hope so, would appreciate a new 4K scan). One of my absolute favorite movies!

It's listed as being in color, not black & white. As the transfer we have is already excellent, I can't see getting too excited about it. 4k is good if you have a huge screen only.
