I was looking at the 2015 World Series title odds today at the Mirage and currently the Cubs are tied with the Red Sox and Dodgers for the second-best odds at 6/1 (the Nationals have the best odds at 9/2). Now I'm a Cubs fan and have liked the moves they've made this offseason but those odds are absurd. They are still a young team and Baez is completely undisciplined and we have no idea what Kris Bryant will do. In my opinion they're at best a .500 team this year and 2016 is realistically when they could do some damage.

It is farfetched but I bet someone at this same time last year said what you are saying about the Royals. Not that the Royals had those kinds of odds.

All you gotta do is get there, look at the Giants last few years, they never had the best team, but came together at the right time, would love to see the Cubs be a contender again....

Yeah with the expanded playoff format of 5 teams it is a little easier to sneak the playoffs.

I know you know this Nav, but I am stating it for the record...two out of the three SF Giants World Series winning teams won their division. It just turns out that with the exception of this years team squeaking by to get a wild card, the Giants got hot in August of both 2010 and 2012.

Ouch this sucks

Victor Martinez tore the medial meniscus in his left knee last week during an
offseason workout and is scheduled to undergo surgery on February 10.

Dr. James Andrews will perform the procedure. It's not all that serious as far as knee injuries go, but the timing is obviously quite poor with major league camps due to open in two weeks. V-Mart has to be considered questionable for the start of the 2015 regular season and the Tigers might no longer risk trying the 36-year-old slugger at positions other than DH. Martinez was re-signed to a four-year, $68 million free agent contract back in mid-November.

Bit of good news

The typical recovery timetable for the type of procedure Victor Martinez likely needs on his left knee is 4-6 weeks.

That's assuming he needs a partial meniscectomy rather than a reattachment. Given Martinez's age and previous knee issues, specialist Dr. Victor Khabie told Jason Beck of MLB.com that he thinks the rehab could be closer to 6-8 weeks. If Martinez needs a reattachment procedure he would be sidelined for months, but it's unlikely the surgery will be that invasive. A clearer picture of V-Mart's timetable will be known after Dr. James Andrews performs the operation on February 10. Even in a best-case scenario, his status for Opening Day is likely up in the air.

James Shields has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Padres in a four-year deal worth around $75 million, plus a club option for a fifth year. The Padres are certainly looking like a different team this year with the additions of Shields, Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Will Middlebrooks, Wil Myers, and Derek Norris.

Looks like they're only selling tickets for the first week of the season right now.

I used to like basketball (the season we are in now), but after Larry Bird retired, I didn't care much. Now? It's all about baseball and football for me. I am excited to watch a lot of baseball this year.

Lifelong Boston Red Sox fan after growing up all over the NE (Rhode Island, Delaware, Boston, and Maine). I now live in Colorado with my wife and am very thankful to have the MLB Network package so that I can keep up with the Red Sox while not having to pay too much attention to the atrocious Colorado Rockies here.

Check the teams website. Most teams list when ticket sales start for the season. A few years ago I logged on at 9:59 am for a ten pm start for ticket sales for the season to general public, and it took me twenty minutes for the site access and most of the good seats were gone by then.

I'm just gonna guess that Reds tickets don't quite sell like Giants tickets.
