Default Speaker Noise

In the past few days, I've noticed two separate occasions where one of my front speakers has made a snapping or popping type noise. It kind of sounds like cracking your knuckle. I don't know much about the science behind home theaters, so any suggestions are appreciated. If anyone needs more info to help diagnose the problem, just let me know.

Thanks.

This started happening to me too, then I realized that it was cracking when the small refrigerator in my room would turn on or off. Depending on what i was using my receiver for, (ipod/Movie/Radio) it made different sounds. The first time it happened it scared the hell out of me. I don't know why your speakers are popping, but that's what my did. Good luck finding a solution!

Thanks for the tip. I actually do have a mini-fridge hooked up off the same outlet, and have been meaning to move it, though I'm in the process of re-arranging my entire basement, and so far all I have set up are the essentials: the TV and a place to keep my drinks.

My refrigerator wasn't even plugged into the same outlet as my theater, so I had to change it to a completely separate CIRCUIT in order to get it to stop. Try out differend outlets/circuits and see if that solves the issue.

That's why dedicated recepts and power conditioners are important. The noise from the speakers is coming from transiets on the grounded conductor (neutral) and being fed throughout your set-up. Motor loads are famous for this.
