Wait for OLED perhaps, but advising LCD over plasma is just bad advice, IMHO.

Right now there are no better TVs than the Pioneer Elite plasmas, followed closely buy the non-Elite Pioneers and higher series Panasonics. If top-notch PQ is a must, I can think of no reason why one would consider anything else (budget issues notwithstanding).

If u compare a samsung le40m86bd to any pioneer the picture on a sammy lcd is much better then plasma and the price.... I can buy 3 samsung for the price of one pioneer plasma with 1080p. So the choice is very easy for me.

No LCD is better than a plasma, given equal attention to set up on each. You've either not seen a properly set up plasma TV, have iffy vision, or are trolling. Which is it?

Wow, this thread blew up since I last checked it.

Thank you all for your comments.

I knew right away that I did not want LCD. I cannot afford the elite. I did think about getting last year's Kuro 5010 because of the talk on AVSForums about Pioneer dropping many of the high end picture adjustments in this year's panel, and the not-so-perfect primary colors. But in the end I think that I will get the 5020 for the following reasons.

1. Many have said that while the primary colors are a little "off" and cannot be adjusted (not officially confirmed as there apparently hasn't been much success in getting to the 5020's service menu if it has one) it is hardly noticable, and the enhancement that the deeper blacks bring to the picture outweigh the minimal primary color err.

2. The whole reason for me deciding to purchase a Kuro is for it's deep blacks, so to me it makes sense to get the Kuro with the deepest blacks (within my price range). No matter how little a difference there is between last gen's and this gen's Kuro, the fact remains that this gen's Kuro indeed has deeper blacks, so my mind is made up. Thanks again

The latest lcd's have now a contrast of 50000:1. I have a Samsung with contrast to 16.000:1 and even that is amazing.
