My other half is a big fan of the book, but often says the TV adaptation left out her favourite parts. She's happy with the casting.

I've never read the book, so I can't really comment.

I watched the TV adaptation of IT when it aired back in 1990. I was 11 and Tim Curry as Pennywise the Clown creeped me out. I wish they would have brought Curry back to do this film now. I don't think this dude's going to be able to pull it off. Hopefully, I'm wrong and he's great. I've been waiting a long time for IT to be made into a R rated film. It is getting an R rating correct? Big mistake if not!

Will Coulter is actually full grown, you know, like a man.
Besides once clown make-up is applied, are you really going to tell the difference? Highly doubtful. Coulter is a terrific actor and has an unsettling appearance.

As Variety reports, New Line considered older actors like Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn, but ultimately decided to go with someone younger. Fukunaga apparently “could not say no” after seeing Poulter’s audition. Mind you, the role was previously played by one freaky, lean, fortysomething Tim Curry.

The older actors listed above are not great choices either. I'm glad Tim Curry is not in it. He's too old, already played the part and is still recovering from his stroke.

"It" will always be among The Exorcist as the movies that terrified me the most when I was a kid. I'm not ecstatic about the casting, but in all my years of watching movies, I've learned to, ya know, actually give actors/directors/etc. a chance before jumping to the conclusion that they'll ruin it.

Not worried about the casting at all. Once you've got the makeup applied it's not hard to be a terrifying clown. It's all down to the acting which I'm confident he'll do just fine in. Granted, Tim Curry without the makeup still would have been terrifying

I like that he has Tim Curry's eyebrows. Still think he looks too young for the part, but will wait to see him in costume.
Cary Fukunaga is running this, if he thinks he's the right choice, there must be something about him. Let's wait

Fukanaga must clearly know exactly what he's doing to have made such a choice. It seems odd to me that they chose such a young actor to portray Pennywise, but perhaps we the audience will be pleased when all is said and done.

For the time being, it's just a real head scratcher.

Though I'm late to the party, I just have to say that I don't understand reasoning behind casting someone so young as Pennywise. it seems so counter-intuitive.

Hopefully he can pull the role off well, however at this point I think it's a misstep.

I don't understand the posts here about Pennywise being too young. Pennywise is not human, it is otherworldly, so it really has no human age. That said, Pennywise used the clown disguise to gain the trust of children, in spite of the creep factor the mini-series used with the costume.

I'm just hoping with this remake, they do things differently, which ultimately they will as the book is 1,000 pages. So whatever the angle will be, hopefully it's just as juicy as the mini-series, since I doubt it will be over 2 hours long.

I find clowns scarier when they are not done up to look scary (for example, the American Horror Story Freakshow clown is overdone), it's too over the top, riddled in cliche.

I like my clowns more subtle (and drunk).
