Exactly! And I think as more and more "Joe Consumers" start buying HD TV's, they will want something better than standard DVD. (Isn't that why we're all here)?

As long as the format war doesn't last too long, BD should really explode... (especially once the standard TV signals go away and HD becomes the norm, FEB 09 if I'm not mistaken).

When DVD hit the scene, it was the hottest thing since sliced bread, but let's face it... upconverting players and all, they just don't cut it compared to Blu-ray !!!

Dvd and Blu-rays will exist together for a long time. Then (Just like the VHS) Dvds will start to disappear. I don't even count Hd-Dvd being around after this year.

actually...this is misinformation..or even disinformation that somehow made it's way into the mainstream...

everything will be digital by that point and you will need a TV that supports this...and this will also allow more shows to be broadcast in HD as the price to broadcast in HD will go down...

I think they tried scaring the customers into buying more HD sets by this way and changed their tune...

I don't know if that's possible for a long while...

everyone has a DVD player right now and can pick one up for 30 bucks..

alot of people will not be able to afford a BD player for awhile and will just stick to DVD....

beating HD DVD is 1st on my list....then being able to co-exist with DVD....then..the world

Blu- ray will be constantly competing w/ DVD as long as companies make players that upconverts. Most uneducated consumers will think they are watching the same thing.

If pricing of hardware and software for the winning format reaches the level of DVD today then that format will win out.
