With that AVR, you can get lossless multichannel audio decoded and processed by the player. But, be advised that using analog turns your receiver into an amp. You won't be able to use any of its processing capabilities, including Audyssey room correction. For most people, the analog set-up is a big pain and they discover that lossless doesn't sound any better than the high bitrate lossy tracks on Blu-ray. Yep. These days, it's hard to find a receiver without HDMI and HD audio decoders. But, beyond lossless audio, a modern processor will give you considerably better room correction and other processing tools that will likely make a bigger difference than TrueHD and dts-MA decoders.

Audyssey 2EQ on the Onkyo SR505 is the bottom end implementation. You'll find much better versions nowadays. Plus other improved processing features. So, yes, I'd recommend going that route. (btw, I still use analog on an AVR I bought in 2005 right before HDMI took off. But, I'd make the switch if I were in the market for a new processor.)

Hi I have an older reciever that does not have HDMI so i am using Optical cable, I have read in some other forums that this connection will only output 2.0 channel, but on the front panel screen of the reciever it displays dolby digital when playing DVDs and DTS when playing bluray also theres a massive difference from PCM to dolby to DTS (obviously) with optical audio cable used.
1. So my question is my Optical cable outputing 2.0 still even when it shows dolby or DTS OR is outputing 5.1 channel surround please help it is frustrating me ![]() |

"if your receiver has mutlichannel analog inputs...then you can hear lossless audio. You will need to buy 3 sets of these analog cables. Just connect to your bluray player, and you will have lossless audio in no time. This thread is intended for those who do not have an HDMI receiver but do have a Bluray player with Multichannel Analog outputs and an old school receiver with analog in's. I know this is fairly common knowledge but there are still those out there who have no idea. And Im all about bringing everyone the best blu experience possible. This can work for audio in conjunction with component cables to the receiver, or even HDMI directly to the TV for video and the analog cables to the receiver for audio. So stop using optical, and get with the HD audio. EDIT: TrueHD and Dts-HD can only be passed as Bitstream using an HDMI cable. For Multichannel Analog you would need a Bluray player with Internal decoding capabilities (into Linear PCM). (ps. Upgrade to an HDMI receiver! )" |

If the Op can tell us what BDP and Receiver he has then we can find out. Last edited by BigAl87; 07-07-2014 at 04:17 PM. |

SirBoss maybe a bot/spammer, they have posted the same post within multiple threads within a short time period, and hasn't yet replied to anyone who has quoted them.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/search.php?searchid=21972407 I replied to their first post on that list. |
