That's untrue. It depends on your seating distance. I just bought a 55" SUHD Samsung and the difference is noticeable... especially contrast and color fidelity. If the source is well mastered, the detail is also much improved.

Once you can get 100% benefit for a sensible price, I could be in. By then there will be something else on the horizon. |

This time UHD should be perfected with full Rec. 2020 color when that's ironed out, 12 bit, 4:4:4, superior visually lossless compression, etc. etc. For 99.9999% of people that would be perfection. |

I can see a point if movies that have problematic transfers on ordinary blu ray come out on UHD blu ray in true 4K while the ordinary blu rays remain problematic. For example, if A Clockwork Orange came out in UHD where they used the true 4K master and the ordinary blu ray wasn't upgraded by Warner.

I like what this guys says. There are many others which show the same. Slight difference and you need a huge screen. To fully benefit you will spend thousands IF it is even possible to buy the size and have the seating distance to enjoy. Hey, good luck to you and anyone who does go for it. As long as you're happy and it's your money. But don't say there isn't evidence against buying for the normal consumer. I'm currently...out and BD is looking good enough for me. |

Again, if you don't see it for yourself and make up your own mind, and solely rely on somebody else's opinion then, well... what can I say? |

If you wish to replace your 300+ BDs at $30 a pop plus thousands on a system and have a 60ft lounge etc then cool. As I said enjoy, it's your cash. |

For one thing, I want immersive surround (Atmos and X) and will be purchasing a Marantz or Yamaha processor soon, so that feature will probably (from everything I've gathered) be more prevalent on UHD Blu-ray releases. Sooo... |

It doesn't help that the official name of the format is "Ultra HD Blu-ray".
Has anyone else noticed how all the formats from the past that bear the name of a previous format in it have for whatever reason failed? D-VHS SACD HD DVD |

People actually think 8K is a thing that will happen? It might conceivably be useful for specialty exhibition formats, but for conventional movie screens - between the lenses in your eye, camera, and projector, and the distance at which it's comfortable to watch a film, it's way beyond overkill.
