Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon got into a fight in the dugout.

Part of the reason they added the 2nd wild card because in 2010 Girardi mailed in it on the division and settled for the wild card.
I understand all of that. All I'm saying is that if there's a tie for the division, there needs to be a one game playoff for the division. It shouldn't be based on record in the head to head matchup. The record in the head to head matchup should be used to determine home field for that game.

So all 19 games to determine home field for a play in game. Again, MLB does too much.

If we lose in the wild card game or in the ALDS, I won't be too upset for the simple fact that we basically overachieved this season.

In all honesty, I'm against playing your divisional opponents 19 times a year. I'd rather they have a balanced schedule where everybody plays everybody.

I think the Yanks have to get to the divisional round. Losing the wild card game would upset me. I know that the Yanks have overachieved this year, but you also have to look at the team that they have on the field right now. There's plenty of talent there for them to win and make it to the first round, especially if Tanaka can pitch in that wild card game.

A balanced schedule would have to do away with the divisions completely (which I'm not against).

No way. You shouldn't penalize the team that has a better record against an opponent. If you want the division....than win those head to head divisional matchups. They play 162 for a reason, a game in April means just as much as a game in September. Making a one game playoff for the division, just because the teams are tied, and not counting division records versus the opponent is stupid. No other sport does that, or should.

What would you recommend? I'm curious. Two 15 team divisions, where the top four or five seeds get in?

I know that's the actual rule, but I think it's dumb. If the Jays and Yankees had tied, I don't think NY should deserve a one game playoff to win the division when they have already lost 13 of their 19 head-to-head games this season.

I'm completely on board with this. They should get rid of divisions in all sports. Of course people would be against that because you would lose rivalry games.

I go the opposite way. When you're playing for playoff seeding or even the right to get into the playoffs if there's a divisional tie and both teams aren't in a position to get one of the two wild card spots, you have to have a playoff game. The reason why is because not every team plays the same schedule during the course of the regular season. It's an unbalanced schedule. Take the Mets and Yanks as an example, who were both good teams this year. They played each other 6 times this year. Nobody else in the NL East had to play the Yanks 6 times and nobody else in the AL East had to play the Mets 6 times. And most years, those other teams never have to play the Mets/Yanks. That's just one example but there are many others to be found.

Proud of my boys for winning our division, but let's not celebrate too hard. We still have a lot of work to do!

Proud indeed, especially since they were down about 8 games just a month ago

I cant see anyone slowing that offense down

It seems that way but I think a challenge they will have is dealing with all of those days off between the last game of the year and the start of the playoffs. When a team has been this hot for so long, last thing you want is 4-5 days off. We've seen it before where teams tank in the playoffs after being on fire toward the end of the season and we've also seen teams struggle toward the finish line during the regular season and get hot in the playoffs.
