10/23 - The Babadook - .5

was highly recommended on this site as well as a friend and i was left slightly underwhelmed. It is a good movie and definitely worth checking out but didnt live up to the hype for me personally. I may buy it eventually but i dont consider it a classic movie like some do...

10/25 - A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors .5

My favorite in the series and officailly like it more than the first NOES. The original is where it all begins and a classic but this is the one i have the most fun watching and has a creepy atmosphere and some awesome kills. not to mention some awesome 1 liners by Freddy lol

Yeah I just felt the sequel was trying way too hard to be so many things at the same time and as a result the overall feature got lost in translation. But as I always say, that's the beauty of film it's all subjective. Two people can sit down and watch the same movie and walk away with complete opposite reactions to it. With this one, I got to the halfway point and turned it off. I just wasn't enjoying it at all. 😡

[Show spoiler]Glen is dead. None. Nada. It would have been played up waaaaayy more if he really was, unless he pissed off some writers.
Regardless of that it was another great episode. I'm just waiting for the dreaded all filler episodes, but I'm hoping there aren't any and it just keeps this pace the entire season.

Trick 'r Treat (2007)
This movie is a delight. I rented it years ago when it first came out and I enjoyed it then. This was my second viewing and I must declare its even better than I remember the first time. Great stories and the way they are all tied into one another is genius. This movie is just so well rounded, good acting, great script and kick ass cinematography. Favorite scene
[Show spoiler]When the bus drivers walking down the aisle handing out candy to the kids, the costumes these kids had on made my skin crawl. So creepy and disturbing in a roundabout way. The bus driving off the cliff was cool too, how the camera slowly follows behind it.
If you've not had the pleasure of seeing this one, I guarantee you will enjoy it. I usually don't care for modern horror flicks but this one was a cut above the rest. This one will be a permanent staple of all my future Halloween marathons.

The Wizard of Gore (1970) I award you no Skulls and may God have mercy on your soul
This is the first in a Herschell Gordon Lewis double feature. The acting was horrendous and extremely amateurish. The plot was just ridiculous and all over the place. The gore was way too fake, way too long and way too over the top. The guy who plays Montag the Wizard yells all his lines and is obviously a young man with his hair and eyebrows dyed grey. Why not cast an older actor, Lewis did the same thing in Blood Feast (1963) with a young man who's hair and eyebrows were dyed grey. It looks utterly ridiculous, though I will say this, Wizard of Gore was a hell of a lot better than Blood Feast. Herschell Gordon Lewis was known for making low budget stinkers with over the top gore and this one is no exception. It has a cult following and I honestly cant see why. Skip this sack-o-shit unless you want to waste 95 minutes of your life. Also avoid Blood Feast and Color Me Blood Red.

The Gore Gore Girls (1972)
Now this one was a step up from the first feature. This one in a way reminded me of Andy Milligan's style. The main two characters were actually like-able. A redheaded sexy reporter and a suave but sleazy private dick investigate the brutal murder of several strippers. Again, the gore is way over the top the scene that I found to be too much was
[Show spoiler]when the killer takes a pair of scissors and cuts this strippers nipples off, bloody milk comes pouring out and the killer catches it in a martini glass. Two, to be exact and then he clangs them together in a toast.
This was the only film I've ever seen of H.G. Lewis that had nudity in it. Henny Youngman makes an appearance as the strip club owner and even cracks a few of his signature one-liners at an amateur strip contest. the acting in this one is a big improvement over The Wizard of Gore. I enjoyed this one, add it my other favorite H.G. Lewis flicks: Two Thousand Maniacs, The Gruesome Twosome and She-Devils on Wheels. All recommended if you've got a sick sense of humor like me.

Tales of Terror (1962)
This one is another Roger Corman and Vincent Price colaboration. Like the other Corman/Price flicks it was professionally made and very well acted. It covers three of Edgar Allen Poe's short stories: Morella, The Black Cat/The Cask of Amontillado and The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar. Price once again gives an amazing performance in all three tales. In the Black Cat/The Cask of Amontillado the great Peter Lorre plays Montresor. My favorite scene of the movie is a wine tasting showdown between Price and Lorre. Price playing Fortunato, a proper and notable wine taster and Lorre's character a low life, manner-less gutter drunk. The facial expressions Price does are hilarious and so out of his usual character type cast but really shows what a versatile actor he was. Lorre downs each glass of wine and lets out a disgusting belch and Price gets this look of disgust on his face that will have you rolling on the floor. Another great Poe flick by Roger Corman and Top notch performances from Price and Lorre make this one a big winner in my book.

The Pyramid (2014)
This one was entertaining but I couldn't help thinking it could have been better. The acting was decent and the overall story was decent. Though I would have changed a few things, first off
[Show spoiler]I would have gotten rid of those stupid CGI cats and that ridiculous looking CGI interpretation of Anubis. Second, the POV camera style would have gone away. I don't get it, you have a killer chasing you and you cant stop fiddling with your damn camera? if that were me the camera would have been ditched a long time ago.
I think this is another found footage/POV flick that is marred by silly CGI creatures. CGI just does not scare me in the least. They may as well of had Jar Jar Binks chasing after these people. The film was entertaining enough to keep me from shutting it off prematurely so it gets one Skull.

October 26th, 2015

I watched a double dose of eh.

The Vatican Tapes (First Time Viewing)

I mainly watched it for Michael Peña. because I'm a fan of his. But a lot of this was quite laughable.
[Show spoiler]The ending of the movie leaves it wide up for a sequel. Which I'm guessing won't happen. So this whole movie is a waste of time.

The Lazarus Effect (First Time Viewing)

My god, was this truly awful. I mean jeez. Chalk up another winner for Blumhouse productions. It goes for so many different cheap jump scares and loud sounds. Which are what Blumhouse movies are known for. It kinda felt like Pet Cemetery. But without the Cemetery part. So many things in this movie were just so groan inducing. Please the ending. Gimme a break! I do find it funny that 4 people from TV shows were all in this.

"HEY YOU GUYSSSSSSS!!!"

It's October 26 - Goonies Day!

28. The Goonies

It's October 26, which means it's Goonies Day! What's the significance of Oct 26? It's the day the Goonies set out on their adventure. I'm not the only one watching it today. It's a childhood favorite that always makes my Halloween Horror marathon. What can I say about this one other than it's a classic. So grab your Baby Ruth and Rocky Road and watch it too!

29. The Monster Squad

Oh yes, Wolfman's still got nards. Always like to follow-up Goonies with this one.

God, this is so shoddy. Bad writing. Bad directing. Bad music. Bad editing. Bad mask. I dunno, I remembered this one being better and I can't for the life of me think why. Totally forgot about the thumb through the head at the beginning. It all goes downhill from there.

10/26 -Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman

One of my favorite all-time classics! Lawrence Talbot(Lon Chaney, Jr.) comes back to life & seeks a cure for his curse. He ends up uncovering the Frankenstein Monster(I had forgot Bela Lugosi played him! ) & the rumble is on! The beautiful Illona Massey plays Baroness Frankenstein.

Damn...I expected a lot more chopping and a lot more gore, not a bunch of stupid teens being chased by robots.

Not nearly as dull as I remember - it's pretty good, gory fun. And the new TT Blu-Ray looks great.

-Eyes Without A Face * (1960):

A mad doctor (Pierre Brasseur) kidnaps young women and surgically removes their faces so he can transplant them onto the ruined visage of his daughter (Edith Scob) following a car crash in this eerie French shocker. Sporting crisp, B&W photography and a fine Maurice Jarre score, Eyes is a poetic, mournful film, with the bone-white mask that Scob wears to hide her true face from the world a truly haunting, memorable image. A slowly-paced film, but a rewarding one.
