Not a movie, but the first season of the TV show Witchblade had a huge cop out ending.

[Show spoiler]The main character uses the Witchblade to reverse time to go back to just a couple hours before the first episode. So guess what, that entire season that you just wasted time watching, now doesn't happen.

I'm not going to use spoilers because it's obvious by the thread title that if you don't want a movie spoiled you should steer clear of this thread.

I have to disagree with Heat. It's one of the most satisfying endings to a movie I've ever seen. I love the fact that De Niro and Pacino only share the screen twice in the movie. The scene in which De Niro and Pacino have coffee in the diner together to explain where each one stands is brilliant and and an excellent buildup to their final scene where they have a showdown at the airport. I wouldn't change a thing about that movie. It's a masterpiece.

Although Collateral is Mann's weakest film IMO, I still think he's one of the best and I have yet to see a bad Michael Mann film. I think it's atrocious that they even remade Manhunter which is a superior film to Red Dragon.

NCFOM for me. I get it...it's not a country for old men, but it could have gone into more detail except just the credits. I hate movies that leave the ending for our own interpretation. WE PAID FOR THE MOVIE AND THAT'S YOUR JOB!!!

The Wizard of OZ had the origional cop-out ending.

[Show spoiler]It was all just a dream. Just think of how many movies and TV shows have been ruined by a character waking up at the end and exclaiming that they had dreamed the whole movie/episode/season.

Yep,
[Show spoiler]same horrible dream cop-out ending. Just mentioned Wizard of Oz because it came first, only to be copied later by North, a season of Dallas, the movie Next, etc......... The Dream Ending has to be one of the worst cop outs ever.

So, which is the worse cop-out ending, or is it a tie?

1. The Dream Ending - someone wakes up at the end and proclaims that it was all just a dream or a coma.

2. The Time Travel Ending - Someone goes back in time making it so the events of the movie/tv show/etc.... never took place.

Femme Fatale by Brian De Palma had the weird dream thing going, but it didn't happen at the end of the movie, it happened in the middle! The opening scene pretty much made up for any shortcomings, however!

However, if it were the first, then it would have been fresh, a surprise, original, a twist and unique.

Dream endings.

Either they can't think of anything else or they just like to piss people off.

At the time it was origional, but it's still a cop-out because they couldn't figure out a way to end the story utilizing the plot that had been used up until that point.

not really. I mean we know she's either dreaming or dead from the start of the movie. We see her go unconscious, so it's not really a cop out if they're not hiding it from you like it's some sort of big surprise.
