I'm 100% positive ESB will never be topped. It's not only the greatest SW film, it's the greatest sci-fi film and one of the greatest films ever made. It has all of the spectacle, drama, story and character arcs that you could ask for. It's everything that makes Star Wars great. I don't even bother comparing anything to it because nothing will ever measure up, including this new trilogy.

Second greatest. It may have had a better story than Star Wars but it can't stand on it's own. It needs the other two films to survive. Star Wars is the best in the series. Look at the AFI top 100 and many other lists. Star Wars is so much more important in film history.

I wouldn't get too upset yet. I feel there's a real possibility that
[Show spoiler]Han isn't dead. When they purposely don't show you a body or have a proper moment of mourning and a funeral, there's always a possibility for a surprise comeback. I wouldn't be surprised at all because it's just a huge glaring omission to pretty much just move on after killing off one SW main characters.

SW:ANH was the appetizer, ESB is the main course. It's superior in every way. Every major plot point and character arc comes to light there. Without ESB, SW isn't nearly as interesting as it is, regardless of what AFI says.

Yeah. I don't know if it's really any better a revival than Jurassic World overall, but Star Wars having a "good" movie again is a bigger deal.

There could heve never been anything after Star Was and it would still be considered in the top 20 films of all time lists because of how important it was. It was the film that changed cinema history. Do I enjoy watching Empire more? Sure but that does not mean it is better.

Enjoying it more is exactly what makes it better for me. I don't really care where it officially stands in the history of film.

Eh... I mean, I liked Jurassic World-- I thought it was silly fun entertainment in the way Jurassic Park III tried to be and wasn't. But I didn't think it was a particularly great movie and didn't come even close to touching the original in terms of story, pacing, or tension.

The Force Awakens I thought was much better on pretty much every level-- characters, story, visuals, exciting action scenes, etc. It's only crime was not being terribly original, as the backbone of the basic plot was taken from the classic movies. But even that I consider a mild criticism since I felt the whole job of this movie was basically to steer the ship back on course.

Now, if Episode VIII involves somebody getting frozen in carbonite at Lando's new mining facility, I'll be worried.

It won't be Lando anymore. It'll be his son.

Saw it today. Have different views. Saw it in IMAX 3d. Absolute best way to see it! Sharp picture, huge screen, great 3d, I felt at times in the movie. Best moment was when
[Show spoiler]the Star Destroyer looked like it was coming right out of the screen.
The movie felt epic and was thrilling. It was fun. Now to the actual plot.
[Show spoiler]Anyone else notice similarities with scenes to the original trilogy? Luke, I am your father. Recreated with Solo and his son. Canteen a scene redone. Falcon called junk. Big fat guy in the X Wing fleet. 3 CPO whose was there just because people think he should when he had no real role. Luke looking like Kenobi at the beginning of episode 4. Making the guard unlock the cuffs and open the door like getting the trooper to waive past Luke. A stupid countdown before firing the planet canon! Did anyone not think that was a copy and just stupid! Why even have a countdown?
The plot needed so much work. Mullins of times better than the prequels but anything would be better. Not even close to any of the original three. I think the movie needed a prequel. How did the First Order rise up? I want to know more about the new emperor like guy. And why does the new heroine look like a young Hayley Atwell? Looking forward to the next movie. But bummed that you know who will not be joining it due to you know what happening to him. So sad!

This review is rather roughly what I think of the film as well:

CAREFUL, SPOILERS!!:

http://www.ferdyonfilms.com/2015/sta...ns-2015/26723/

This film can not be judged on its own, as it doesn't make much sense yet. (
[Show spoiler]Finn, Rey, Snoke, etc....

I definitely have to watch it again, and I will have to see how the sequels make sense of the elements thrown our way in this one.
Well, here we are again. Point by point, I'm not seeing thought behind what you're saying. You just linked to someone else's review. What's your opinion?

I already stated some of mine in brief, but a couple of people, including you, have essentially said 'it doesn't feel like Star Wars', and I'm still wondering how anyone could possibly think that. Everything about this movie, from the script, the story, the music, the new characters, the cinematography, and the design down to the smallest detail absolutely embodies Star Wars, more than anything we have seen for the past 30 years. More than anything else, I'd like to understand the minority opinion that says otherwise, because it would give me insight into a group of fans who are just as passionate about it as I am, but clearly have a very different idea about what it should be. The fact that you can't articulate your most basic thought about this is disturbing.

I agree that it was much better the 2nd time, and I loved it after the 1st time seeing it.

One of my gripes about the film. I would've really appreciated a recap of the past 30 years to explain what happened, where they are now and how they got there. Something to summarize the state of the Republic, First Order and resistance as well as our 3 heroes goings on since then. Just to get up to speed.
I'm not so sure you know who is you know what yet. The way it was done and the follow up, or lack there of, leads me to believe we may see you know who again.

... or somebody will get dismembered and get a free bare back wookie ride, there'll be a "and I thought they smelt bad on the outside" reference, and someone will fly into an asteroid field to impress a girl, and the falcon will land in the stomach of giant beast.

I'm guessing if the pattern holds, Ep IX will also feature

I don't think that Geoff D. is guilty of this, but there is definitely a group of people on the internet who feel like it's their duty to go after those who are fans of anything popular. Things like The Hunger Games will never be for me, but I don't participate in those threads, and leave it at that.

Where do you stand on the Prequels? Your quote here could be me, especially for Attack of the Clones.

As far as The Force Awakens is concerned, the reason I liked it so much that the new characters worked for me immediately. Finn's desire to be a good person, but shame at
[Show spoiler]abandoning his fellow stormtroopers
, was evident, and informed everything he did after that. On the other hand, Rey was driven, almost literally,
[Show spoiler] by powers she never knew she had
, brought to the surface by an amazing set of circumstances.

When I compare that to the clunky politics and mugging villains of the prequels, spouting the corniest lines imaginable as they hopped from one over-CGIed video game fest to the next,

there's no doubt in my mind that The Force Awakens is the better Star Wars movie. For that matter, it's better than muppet infested parts of Return of the Jedi as well. How did you only focus on 2 CGI characters, and miss all the amazing practical effects and costumes that were everywhere throughout the movie?

I felt more for many of the prequel characters than I did for Rey honestly because
[Show spoiler]her victories kept getting more and more silly and without much of a struggle for it. It was all too convenient unless they reveal she had previous training or something in the next movie. Obi Wan lost his master in The Phantom Menace, Anakin lost family members and limbs and more, Luke lost family & a master in A New Hope. What did Rey lose in this movie? (I guess Han Solo, a guy she knew for a couple days and offered her a job)

And that's what it is. If a band I really love decides to return to their roots after many years of so so experimentation, I will be more inclined to enjoy it than say a band I just like casually. In 2015 we saw loose remakes of Star Wars, Rocky and Jurassic Park. I enjoyed the first two more bc I love the originals. Jurassic Park has less heart, which is why Jurassic World was not as enjoyable as TFA and Creed.
